Even the best have an off-night from time to time.

Josh Hader, as dominant a closer the game has seen in recent seasons, surrendered a pair of home runs in the ninth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers dropped their fourth straight game, this one a 3-2 gut-buster to the Philadelphia Phillies at American Family Field on Tuesday night.

Hader entered the game having just tied Ryan Pressly for the major-league record with 40 consecutive scoreless appearances on Sunday.

BOX SCORE: Phillies 3, Brewers 2

He was greeted by a 426-foot homer off the bat of Alec Bohm, who went up and out of the strike zone to send a 96.4-mph fastball out to left-center.

Hader recovered briefly by getting a flyout to left from Bryson Stott and then got ahead in the count to pinch-hitter Matt Vierling, 1-2, before he went down and got a slider and hit it 416 feet out to left-center.

Vierling was hitting .188 with one homer in 24 games entering Tuesday.

The blown save was Hader's first since last July 7, snapping a string of 32 consecutive saves.

He also hadn't allowed a run since last July 28, with his 38-inning scoreless streak the longest in the majors coming into the game.

Hader hadn't allowed more than one homer in a game since Sept. 12, 2020.

Andrew McCutchen drew a leadoff walk from former Brewer Corey Knebel in the bottom of the ninth, then Victor Caratini walked with two outs.

Jace Peterson followed with a nine-pitch walk to load the bases, but Knebel recovered to strike out Pablo Reyes on three pitches and Milwaukee had lost its season-high fourth straight.
