The social advocacy and community engagement organization Pride Live announced it will open the new Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. The groundbreaking ceremony for the LGBTQ+ visitor center, the first of its kind at a National Monument, will take place today, Friday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. The historic event will be Livestreamed on Pride Live’s YouTube channel with help from Google, the first corporate sponsor to join in the effort.

The Visitor Center will be located at 51 Christopher Street in New York City, one of two locations that comprised the Stonewall Inn.

“The opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is a remarkable moment in the history of Stonewall,” Ann Marie Gothard, President of the Pride Live Board of Directors, said in a statement. “We honor all those who came before us, most especially the queer people fighting for equality at the Stonewall Riots. The designation as a National Monument and the opening of this visitor center will commemorate their important legacy in the gay rights movement, and we hope will inspire future generations to continue fighting for LGTBQ+ equality.”

The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is expected to open in the summer of 2024. For more information, visit www.stonewallvisitorcenter.org.

The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will be funded by donations from the community and allies.
