Thursday: Melt Banana at Empire

The Japanese grindcore heavies have been churning brutal noise at breakneck tempos for three decades. They wrecked shop at Empire during Oblivion Access Festival earlier this year and are back for another blitz as part of their North American tour. Ed Schrader's Music Beat opens. $25. 8 p.m. empireatx.com.

Friday: Lucius at Emo's (originally at Scoot Inn)

Frontwomen Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe have compiled an impressive résumé as collaborators over the past decade, working with artists ranging from Roger Waters and John Legend to Jeff Tweedy and Lukas Nelson. But their best work is the music they make with their own band. They featured songs from their latest album, “Second Nature,” at a stellar “Austin City Limits” taping earlier this year, after having previously appeared at ACL Fest and SXSW. Shamir opens. $33-$35. 7 p.m. doors. scootinnaustin.com.

NOTE: Due to inclement weather, this show has been moved to Emo's and combined with the Lee Fields and Shamir show. Lineup will be Shamir, Lee Fields, Lucius. Original tickets will be honored.

Saturday: King Princess at Emo’s

Three years after she dropped her debut full-length, “Cheap Queen,” the Brooklyn bedroom-pop artist who became an international sensation with queer anthems like “1950” has a new album, “Hold On Baby.” The lead track is a soaring ode to lifelong friendships, and we’re guessing this would be a lovely show to share with your old-school besties. Em Beihold opens. $32.50. 7 p.m. doors. emosaustin.com. (Tickets for the originally scheduled July 21 show will be accepted.)

Saturday: Pistachio Fest at Billy’s on Burnet

Sometimes you feel like a nut, and sometimes that nut is a pistachio. Austin musician Mike McCoy apparently considers them an autumn rite of passage, given that he’s presented this humble event featuring local acts for the past several years. Joining him for this year’s bash are Shoulders, Mike Nicolai, JuKiCola, Andrew Duplantis, Al G & His Magic Sax and Jennifer Cook. Admission is free, but drop a few bucks in the tip jar so the musicians can buy more pistachios. 3 to 10 p.m. billysonburnet.com.

Sunday: Gram Parsons Birthday Hoot at Metcalf BBQ

This 15th annual event honoring the late country-rock legend’s songs has moved around a bit over the years but has settled at a spacious outdoor barbecue joint on the southwest edge of town. Among those taking part is pianist Earl Poole Ball, who recorded with Parsons during his years in the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. More than two dozen local acts join him on the bill, including Christine Albert, Barbara Nesbitt, Chris Beall, Tom Gillam, Phil Hurley, Patterson Barrett, Nichole Wagner and Herb Steiner. Proceeds from the $15 suggested donation benefit Austin Pets Alive. 4 to 7:30 p.m. metcalfbbqatx.com.

The Filipina British pop savant’s intimate songwriting was inspired by an Austin icon. In 2019, she told British music outlet NME that watching the documentary “The Devil and Daniel Johnston” transformed her artistic vision. “(Johnston) was just this kid who didn’t fit in and made things in his bedroom and didn’t expect anything. I saw the fact that he was just so strange and motivated with everything he did, and I wanted to be just like him,” she said. Her latest album, "Beatopia," explores an imaginary world of childhood dreams with melancholy lyrics that drift on lilting melodies. $25-30. 7 p.m. doors. emosaustin.com.

Wednesday: Gipsy Kings at Paramount Theatre

There’s been no new album from this French “rumba flamenca” outfit since 2013’s “Savor Flamenco,” but that one finally won the group a Grammy after seven previous nominations. The lineup has evolved across the band’s 40-year recording career, but co-founder Nicolas Reyes remains an anchor. Eclectic singer-songwriter Shutterdog opens. $52.50-$187.50. 8 p.m. austintheatre.org.
