CHIPPEWA LAKE, Ohio (WJW) — “Take a dip in the Chip!” might not sound icy cold, but even with sunshine and relatively mild weather for early February the water in Chippewa Lake was frigid but fun participants said.

How much more snow will we see this winter in NE Ohio?

‘Polar Bear Jump’ is the title of the event and “Take a Dip in the Chip” was the theme for this year’s Chippewa Lake Lions Club Foundation fundraiser held Saturday.

Chippy, the beloved polar bear mascot hosted the fun fund-raiser that organizers said collected over $62,000 last year for local charities and families in need.

Over 300 people took part in the Fun Run & Walk while wearing creative costumes, and many brave souls took the plunge into frigid Chippewa Lake where the air temperature was in the mid-30s but water temps were colder.
