California has a bevy of elections to keep an eye on tonight.

Among the 53 congressional seats the state will fill on Election Day, no fewer than 10 of them are seen as highly competitive in a year where control of the House of Representatives is seriously in play.

There is a gubernatorial and a US Senate re-election campaign this year, as well as closely-watched mayoral elections in Los Angeles, San Jose, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Chula Vista, Irvine, and Long Beach.

Lastly, California's always fascinating ballot referenda are particularly compelling this cycle, with a pair of referenda that would legalize gambling, an abortion rights referendum, plus referendums on healthcare and climate change.

Polls closed in the state at 8 p.m. local time, or 11 p.m. EST.
