DALLAS — Kadence Morrison struck out six to lead Dallas/Falls City to a 3-1 OSAA 5A quarterfinals victory over Silverton on Friday afternoon.

Dallas head coach Brandi Jackson said after the win that it was “extremely difficult” facing someone in their league in a playoff.

“They (Silverton) have gotten progressively better as the years went on,” Jackson said. “So we knew it was going to be a nail biter.”

Dallas freshman Grace Walls got things started offensively with an RBI single in the second.

“She’s done really well putting the ball in play,” Jackson said of Walls, who joined the varsity squad midseason after a players‘ injury.

In the third, junior Chloe Zajac’s single up the middle drove in another run, giving the Dragons an insurance run.

The Foxes made it a one-run game in the fifth on Justina Semerikov’s infield single.

But Morrison‘s RBI double in the bottom of the fifth stretched Dallas’s margin to 3-1.

Meanwhile, on the mound Morrison got out of a crucial bases-loaded jam in the sixth, while striking out the final batter in the seventh.

“To see that, especially in a pressure situation, just goes to show how much growth and maturity she has had from last year,” Jackson said.

Dallas will travel to Pendleton where they will face No. 1 seed Pendleton / Griswold in the semifinals round on Tuesday.
