Thursday's OSAA basketball state playoff roundup

Five Mid-Valley basketball teams reached the OSAA basketball state semifinals with wins Thursday at their respective state tournaments.

In girls, Gervais reached the Class 2A state semifinals.

In boys, Salem Academy and Kennedy will face each other in the 2A state semifinals, and Western Christian is in the other 2A state semifinal.

Also in boys, Crosshill Christian made it to the 1A boys state semifinals.

OSAA girls basketball state tournaments 

CLASS 2A — GERVAIS 38, WESTERN CHRISTIAN 28

Gervais outscored Western Christian 25-12 in the second half to win 38-28 and advance to the 2A girls basketball state semifinals.

Ava Sellers had a team-high 16 points for Gervais, and Runon Muroya had 17 points for Western Christian.

Gervais will face Monroe /Alsea at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.

Western Christian will face Salem Academy at 9 a.m. in the consolation.

CLASS 2A — MONROE/ALSEA 43, SALEM ACADEMY 38

No. 1 Salem Academy’s girls basketball team shot just 28.3 percent from the field Thursday in a 43-38 upset loss to No. 9 Monroe/Alsea in the 2A state quarterfinals.

Aly Herber had a team-high 11 points, as well as 11 rebounds for Salem Academy in the loss. Haley Ferry added a team-high 14 rebounds to go along with seven points.

Salem Academy next will face Western Christian at 9 a.m. Friday in the consolation.

Monroe/Alsea moves on to face Gervais at 1:30 p.m. in the state semifinals.

CLASS 3A — SANTIAM CHRISTIAN 36, AMITY 35

Amity’s girls basketball team was outscored 13-4 in the fourth quarter and lost 36-35 in the 2A state quarterfinals.

Ellie McMullen scored a team-high 10 points for Amity.

Amity now will face Lakeview at 8 a.m. Friday in the consolation.

Santiam Christian will face Banks at noon in the state semifinals.

CLASS 1A — NORTH DOUGLAS 53, ST. PAUL 31

North Douglas shot 46.7 percent to beat St. Paul’s girls basketball team 53-31 in the 1A consolation.

Anabelle Davidson scored a team-high 11 points for St. Paul, which saw its season end.

North Douglas will face Jordan Valley at 8 a.m. Saturday in the fourth-place game.

OSAA boys basketball state tournaments

CLASS 2A — WESTERN CHRISTIAN 40, EAST LINN CHRISTIAN 37

Western Christian held East Linn Christian to just three points in the fourth quarter to win 40-37 and advance to the 2A boys basketball state semifinals.

Caleb Halgren had a team-high 14 points to lead Western Christian, and Gavin Hall had 12 points.

Western Christian now faces Heppner at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

East Linn Christian will face Mannahouse Academy at 9 a.m. Friday in the consolation.

CLASS 2A — SALEM ACADEMY 54, REGIS 44

Salem Academy advances to the 2A state semifinals with a 54-44 win against Regis.

Landen Mitchell and Jackson Oglesby each had 12 points to lead Salem Academy. Oglesby also had 18 rebounds.

Salem Academy will face Kennedy at 8:15 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

Regis will face Santiam at 10:45 a.m. in the consolation.

CLASS 2A — KENNEDY 56, SANTIAM 46

Three players scored in double digits to lead Kennedy’s boys basketball team to a 56-46 win in the 2A state quarterfinals.

Luke Beyer had 17 points, Brett Boen had 13 points, and Ethan Kleinschmidt had 10.

For Santiam, Gage Twede had 26 points.

Santiam will face Regis at 10:45 a.m. in the consolation.

Kennedy will face Salem Academy at 8:15 p.m. in the state semifinals.

CLASS 3A — CASCADE CHRISTIAN 65, DAYTON 48

Cascade Christian shot 70.3 percent from the field to beat Dayton 65-48 in the 3A quarterfinals.

Trae Wall led Dayton with 14 points in the loss.

Dayton now will face the loser of the Creswell-De La Salle North Catholic game at 10:45 a.m. in the consolation.

Cascade Christian faces the winner of Creswell-De La Salle North Catholic at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.

CLASS 1A — CROSSHILL CHRISTIAN 53, NIXYAAWII 49

Noah Dallum had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Crosshill Christian to the 1A state semifinals with a 53-49 win.

Ben Hemelstrand led Crosshill Christian with 17 points in the victory.

Crosshill Christian will face Open Door Christian Academy at 6 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

Nixyaawii will face Union at 9:45 in the consolation.
