106: Johnathon McGinty (St. Joes) vs. Gennaro Marzocca (Paramus Catholic)

First two periods pass with no score. Marzocca starts third period on top. McGinty in seated position and is able to escape for the first point. Then he gets loose and turns an ankle into a takedown with 40 seconds left in third period. He rides up, working the right leg/ankle. Its over, McGinty wins it 3-0.

113: Devin Ryan (New Milford) vs. Malik Asfour (Lodi)

Asfour in a white singlet with big orange L. Ryan in green. We're waiting for the consos at 106 to end before we move on.

All right we are ready. Asfour shoots at the whistle, Ryan fights it off for a while...but Asfour goes flying near the line and gets the first two. Ryan close to getting out, but now Asfour running the arm. Ryan gets out of bounds. We restart at 32 seconds in the first. Asfour with a nasty tilt and will get 3 back points. Ryan a reversal. Its 5-2 after the first period.

Second period starts with Asfour on top. He tries the arm again but refs say its dangerous and now we have a stoppage. Blood on Asfour. Back underway, Asfour on top. Ryan briefly on feet, but is thrown back down. We restart.

Quick escape for Ryan, and now he's lookng to score. Under a minute. He had Asfour in trouble for a count. They give Ryan 2 for control and we're tied at 5. Asfour looks dazed and we have a stoppage. Like, really dazed.

Asfour points to his shoulder and the match will be halted. Ryan wins by injury default (unofficially).

120: Vincent Paino (St. Joe's) vs. Chris Hong (Paramus)

Hong in baby blue for Paramus, Paino in white and green for Joes.

Some handfighting, Hong fakes toward the ankle, now goes for it, but is countered. Paino close to two, now Hong reversing. Still no score. Ref stops us at 41 seconds. Nothing going on. End of 1, no score.

Hong starts 2nd period on top. Paino able to get out quick. 1-0. Paino trying for the leg and a trip, but Hong playing great defense. Refs stops us at 1:02. Paino pushes Hong off the mats. We start again. 33 seconds. They bang Paino for a stall, his first. Now Paino on the high crotch, takes Hong down with 4 seconds left in period. 3-0. end of 2.

Third period, Paino starts on top, not much going on. 30 seconds into third. Hong able to sprawl, but still not all the way out. Paino has ankle and they are out of bounds. 58 seconds left in third. Paino tough on top. Hong just not able to get free until very, very end. Final is 4-1.

126: Adan Cedeno (Pascack Valley) vs. Marco Alarcon (Don Bosco)

Alarcon in the dark red, and boom, he starts with a quick double for two. Now he's heavy on the head and on top. Cedeno in big trouble, forced to bridge to avoid being pinned. 5-0 in 37 seconds.

We restart and Alarcon with a half-nelson and is pushing the pace (twisting the shoulder). 7-0. End of 1.

They start neutral, Cedeno trying to get something going. They almost end up in the coach's chair. 112 left in second. Alarcon with control and a takedown. 9-0. Cedeno just can't escape. Alarcon too good on top. Now he does just before end of period. End of 2. 9-1.

Alarcon with side headlock, and gets 2 back. 13-1. Cedeno - to his credit - has fought the whole way. Its over. 13-1.

132: Ryan Hartung (New Milford) vs. Donny Almeyda (St. Joes)

Can New Milford get a second BCCA Champ? Let's find out. I wonder when the last time that happened.

Two guys with school colors are green. Almeyda going with the black singlet. We're underway. Almeyda with a deep shot, Hartung trying to fight it off....goes up and over. Ref has to call dangerous. 100 left in first. Almeyda spins and gets the ankle, but Hartung able to spread legs....they roll through. No score. After 1.

Almeyda with the escape point at 1:42 of the second period. Both guy son their feet. Almeyda with a shot, is able to get up and get control for 2. 3-0 1:05 left. Almeyda pushing the action. Hartung breaks free and gets the escape. 3-1 after two periods.

Almeyda starts on top. He's on his feet now, Hartung spins away, it's 3-2. So a takedown can win it. 1:05 left in third. Almeyda still pushing forward, you know, best defense is offense. 6 seconds left and we restart. Hartung does a bit of a jump, but can't get anywhere. They hug. Almeyda wins it 3-2. Good match.

138: Mateo Sgambellone (St. Joe's) vs. Christian Fojon (Ramsey)

Fojon in blue, Sgambellone in green. We're underway. Sgambellone takes a quick two. Looking for back points, but Fojon rolls to stomach. 1 minute left in first period. Fojon is free. 2-1. Sgambellone catches Fojon coming in. That's two and Al (the ref) adds 3 back points. 7-1 after 1.

Fojon starts on top. Sgambellone spins free. 8-1. More good work by Sgambellone. 10-1. A Fojon escape, but Sgambellone with a leg and a trip. 2 more. 12-2. 12-3 after 2.

Sgambellone another takedown on the line. 16-6. Final is 18-6 as Sgambellone gets 2 more with 4 seconds left.

144: Louden Mazzeo (Emerson/Park Ridge) vs. Joey Canova (Bergen Catholic)

Mazzeo in red and white, Canova in red and gold. He's the only BC finalist as they didn't bring their A team this weekend.

Mazzeo throws some hands (blocking vision, not literally). Both lock up and drop to knees. stalemate. 1 minute gone. Canova gets to side and gains control. So thats 2. Under 10 seconds in first. end of first 2-0.

Mazzeo starts on top, so Canova gets 1 right away. Both on their feet. 3-0. Canova a big move, 5-0 and Mazzeo needs a moment. Clock stopped 50 seconds left in 2nd period.

They shake hands. Looks like injury default by Mazzeo, I'm thinking it may be a knee. 5-0 Canova is winner.

150: John Quinonez (Paramus Catholic) vs. Ben Garcia (Don Bosco)

Match is underway. I wont be able to see much of it because they're breaking down the mat in front of me. Garcia a quick snap and spin, but can't score. Now Quinonez goes flying and scores, and they give him 2. Thats the score after 1 period.

4-1 Quinonez after 2 periods. I moved my seat. No one is in the stands. This is such a weird place. Quinonez riding. He leads it 6-1. Now its 8-1 Garcia with a nice reversal and gets control. 8-3 with 30 seconds to go. Quinonez spins out and gets control right at the buzzer. He wins it 10-3.

157: Damian Weaver (Lyndhurst/North Arlington) vs. Gavin Seiler (Westwood)

Seiler in red, I always liked the WCW logo Westwood had. Weaver in blue. And we're ready.

Weaver gets poked near the eye and we pause. 42 seconds in. Both guys on feet. Weaver with leg, tries to dump, but Seiler counters...Weaver stays with it and gets 2 though. Thats how first period ends.

Weaver starts on top. He throws Seiler, I mean, cuts him, 2-1. Both guys on their feet, still feeling each other out. Seiler drops for a shot, Weaver pounces, 4-1. He rides out rest of the period.

Weaver gets an early 1 to make it 5-1. Weaver stays patient. Sees and opening and spins Seiler down. 7-1 with under 30 seconds to go. That's how it ends. 7-1 Weaver wins.

165: Daniel Rella (Paramus Catholic) vs. Ryan Burton (St. Joe's)

Rella in white. There's literally no crowd control here and everyone is just all over the mats.

Burton in green. Big scramble and its Burton who winds up on top, but cant score, now Rella...same as he gets on top. They literally rolled for almost a minute. No score.

Second period, Rella lets Burton loose. 1-0. They lock up again. Nothing doing. Rella makes a great move and gets 2 just at the buzzer. 2-1.

Burton starts 3rd period on top. A slip, near the line, Rella is locked up. PIN by Burton.

175: Josh Palacio (North Bergen) vs. Rocco Dellagatta (St. Joe's)

Forgive me, I had to spend some time talking to Damian Weaver. Palacio wins it 10-8. It was win 101 in his career.

190: Michael Dellagatta (St. Joe's) vs. Xavier Williams (Paramus Catholic)

Two big dudes here. Tall and lean. Both in black. Dellagatta gets 2 near the line. On the restart, Dellagatta with a tilt and has WIlliams in a bad way. PIN 1:46.

215: Aiden Schlett (St. Joe's) vs. Robert Ekins (Don Bosco)

I think my math is correct, we're still going to have 11 non-public champs and 3 from public schools. I'm not sure about this new format, but I applaud the BCCA for trying something new. And it's cool to have the girls involved. They just get better and better.

Ekins in white, Scheltt in green with SJR on chest. Schlett drops down after shot attempt. We get a quick whistle. 1:34 left. Schlett a gut wrench, brings Ekins to his knees. That's 2. Under a minute in the first period. End of 1.

Ekins starts on top. Called for a clasp. Schlett gets a reversal for 2, despite nifty roll by Ekins. And a point for the clasp. 5-0. Ekins an escape and its 5-1. Schlett on the leg, and gets a leg sweep/trip for 2. 7-1 under 20 left in period. That's how it ends.

3rd period. Big scramble to start. Schlett comes out on top 9-2. Back to neutral. Schlett again with gut wrench and Ekins is down, 11-2. Same move as before. That's it. 11-2. Schlett is the champ.

285: Jimmy Mullen (St. Joe's) vs. Max Acciardi (Paramus Catholic)

Jimmy Mullen had a big first period, building a 7-1 lead and coasted to an 8-2 victory.
