Arlington voters approve bond proposals for streets, parks, fire station, libraries

At least four proposals that part of a $278 million Arlington bond package for street improvements, parks, a fire station and libraries were approved by voters Saturday, according to unofficial results.

All five of the propositions on ballot had the support of voters with all 169 vote centers reporting. But the margins are virtually tied for a $3 million proposal for structural and mechanical repairs at City Hall, the City Tower and other administrative buildings downtown. Just a fraction of a percentage point separates the “for” and “against” votes for the measure, Proposition D.

Proposition A

The $219.5 million proposal includes construction on Randol Mill Road, Park Row Drive, Mansfield Webb Road, Sherry Street and residential streets. Other allocated dollars funded by the measure include sidewalk improvements, traffic signal construction, intersection improvements and the construction of a Public Works building. The proposal had support from 68.9% of voters.

Proposition B

The $24.6 million dollar proposal for parks and recreation includes funding for an the Woodland West Park Aquatic Center, renovations at the Elzie Odom Athletic Center, renovations and Fielder Park, playground replacements at parks, and phase one development of the N.L. Robinson Park, construction for a Village Creek Linear Park trail. It passed with 63% of the vote.

Proposition C

The $30.1 million public safety proposal will fund a North Police Substation, a new fire station and facility upgrades at police and fire stations. The new station is expected to be at 2015 Mayfield Road. It had support from 70.7% of voters.

Proposition D

The $3 million measure will provide funding for structural and mechanical repairs at downtown administrative buildings, including City Hall and the City Tower. It has 50.03% of the vote to 49.97% against.

Proposition E

The $1.1 million proposal upgrade libraries, such as replacing HVACs, roofs and window. It passed with 63.9% of the vote.
