Live updates: Auburn basketball hosts Georgia searching for 14th straight win

AUBURN — Will Auburn men's basketball claim its first No. 1 ranking in program history this season? Coach Bruce Pearl (and many fans) thought the Tigers deserved it this week. Alas, they have two games to prove themselves before the next polls are released.

Before Kentucky, Auburn (16-1, 5-0 SEC) starts its big week Wednesday (8 p.m., ESPNU) with a home matchup against struggling Georgia (5-12, 0-4) at Auburn Arena.

"I think, based at this time, we should be No. 1 based on our résumé," Pearl said after his team came in at No. 2 behind Gonzaga in both polls. "But that doesn't mean we're the best team in the country, and I'm not saying that. I think we're one of the top 20 teams in the country. I think we're one of the top five or six teams in our league. As far as where we wind up, that's where we wind up. That's how you play the season."
