Celtics lose to the Warriors 107-97 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals

The Boston Celtics dropped a nail-biter to the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. After trading buckets for much of the game, the Warriors pulled away in the final minutes to win 107-97.

“We had our opportunities tonight, especially when we had a five, six point lead, it felt like we let them back in the game,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said after the game.

But he’s confident in the team going forward.

“We know we can do it,” Udoka said. “We’ve done it before.”

The series is now tied 2-2. Game 5 will be played in San Francisco on Monday and Game 6 in Boston on Thursday.

If necessary, the series will return to San Francisco for Game 7.

11:23 p.m. With 47 seconds left in the game, the Warriors are up 104-97, their largest lead of the game.

11:10 p.m. Warriors lead 97-94.

11:09 p.m. Klay Thompson from downtown! Warriors up 95-94.

11:08 p.m. Marcus Smart sinks a three as the shot clock expires. Celtics up 94-90.

11:04 p.m. One man band: Jaylen Brown with the steal and hard-fought basket. Celtics up 90-86.

10:50 p.m. It’s anyone’s game at the end of three. Warriors lead 79-78.

10:41 p.m. Steph Curry hits a three to tie the game at 73. He’s furious some apparent contact by Jayson Tatum wasn’t called.

10:31 p.m. Jaylen Brown draws the foul from Draymond Green and hits the fadeaway. Celtics lead 66-60.

10:30 p.m. The city was unprepared to handle the crowds at the watch party in Copley Square, according to Boston 25 reporter John Monahan.

10:26 p.m. After drilling a three, Marcus Smart robs Draymond Green and throws it down. Green follows by scoring his first points of the night.

10:24 p.m. Banks are open! Steph Curry banks a three to kick off the second half. Klay Thompson follows up with another three, tying the game at 54.

10:12 p.m. Some halftime stats: Jayson Tatum had 16 points and 7 rebounds in 21 minutes of play, Jaylen Brown had 12 points and 1 rebound in 18+ minutes, Derrick White had 10 points and 0 rebounds in 15+ minutes. Steph Curry leads all scorers with 19 points and had 5 rebounds in 19 minutes of play, Andrew Wiggins had 11 points and 5 rebounds in 22 minutes, Jordan Poole had 10 points and 0 rebounds in 9 minutes of play.

The dynamic duo of Tatum and Brown combined for 28 points in the first half.

10:08 p.m. Halftime. Celtics lead 54-49.

10:07 p.m. Heads up! Robert Williams catches the ricochet from another monster block.

10:02 p.m. And 1! A beautiful spin and finish by Derrick White after drawing the foul.

10 p.m. What a beaut! Al Horford tosses to Marcus Smart for a wide open three. Celtics lead 44-42.

9:55 p.m. Celtics tie it up at 39.

9:50 p.m. Warriors coach Steve Kerr slapped with a technical foul after complaining about a no-call. Tatum misses the free throw.

9:45 p.m. Some first quarter stats: Jayson Tatum had 12 points and 3 rebounds in 9 minutes of play, Robert Williams had 5 points and 5 rebounds in 7 minutes, Steph Curry had 12 points and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes, Andrew Wiggins had 8 points and 0 rebounds in 10 minutes.

9:42 p.m. The Warriors started the second quarter hot, scoring six unanswered points to take a 33-28 lead.

9:35 p.m. Buzzer beater! Grant Williams sinks a three to give the Celtics a 28-27 lead at the end of the first quarter.

9:29 p.m. A 17-6 Warriors run forces a Celtics timeout. Golden State leads 23-18.

9:25 p.m. Celtics villain Draymond Green already has two fouls. He fouled out of Game 3 with more fouls than points scored.

9:23 p.m. The Warriors clawed their way back, coming within two of the Celtics. Derrick White drains two free throws to extend the lead to 16-12.

9:13 p.m. And we’re off. The Celtics pulled out front quickly, scoring nine unanswered points to take an 11-4 lead. Robert Williams had a monster block to deny Steph Curry of a layup.

The Celtics tip off against the Warriors at 9 p.m. in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Boston enters the game with a 2-1 series lead and has an opportunity to put more pressure on Golden State by extending that lead to two games.

Celtics fans packed the area near the Garden Friday evening, with lines outside bars and restaurants snaking up and down the block. A watch party is also being held at Copley Square Park for those looking to cheer on their team without breaking the bank.

“I wanted to come up here and watch the Celtics, with like the atmosphere of the Celtics fans, but not go to the game because it’s so much money,” said Ben Yard, who traveled from Pittsburgh with his dad to attend the watch party.

The excitement over a possible 18th championship is palpable, but the Celtics aren’t letting themselves get comfortable.

“Can’t relax...we gotta come out with the same mentality, like our back’s against the wall,” Jayson Tatum said.

After criticizing Boston fans for their behavior during Game 3, Klay Thompson was booed by the crowd during warmups.

Game 4 will be another star-studded affair at the Garden, where the list of notable fans includes an Olympic gold medalist, two Patriots players and a slew of former Celtics. See the full list of celebrities below:
