The two teams combined for less than 400 total yards, five turnovers and over 120 penalty yards as Centerville eventually held off Lakota East in a defensive struggle. The Elks took a 9-0 lead on Emable Wakilongo's 3-yard touchdown run with 4:50 left in the third quarter. Lakota East finally got on the board early in the fourth on Eric Davis' 3-yard touchdown run. Davis and Aidan Troutman combined for 85 rushing yards on 27 carries for the Thunderhawks and senior linebacker Jake Reisner totaled 15 tackles.

Oak Hills 31, Turpin 20 - FINAL
For the first time since 2018, the Oak Hills Highlands are 1-0 to start a season. After a back-and-forth night, Oak Hills took the final lead with 4:45 left in the fourth quarter courtesy of an eight-yard run by quarterback Jaxon Schreiber. Oak Hills had taken a 17-13 lead seconds into the final quarter before coughing it back up on a 55-yard pick six from Karson Kidd. Schreiber sealed the win with 58 seconds left on a 29-yard run. Schreiber rushed 16 times for 121 yards, but it was Demar Parker Jr. that led with 121 yards on 21 carries with a score. Through the air, Schreiber was 10-17 for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Oak Hills will kickoff its nine-game conference at Sycamore next while week while Turpin will try to avoid going 0-2 for the first time since 2017 with a visit from Kings.

Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC)
Princeton 61, Anderson 36 - FINAL
Two teams that combined for 103 points in last year's season opener had another shootout in Week 1 this fall with another Princeton quarterback breaking out for a win. This year, it was senior R.J. West, who was 10-of-17 for 209 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a game-high 132 yards and two scores on 15 carries. Princeton trailed by double digits at 24-13 midway through the second quarter, but the Vikings would score 41 of the game's next 47 points to take a commanding 54-30 lead into the fourth quarter. Deandre Rutherford ran for 129 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings and Teryntino Brown-Freeman eclipsed 100 rushing yards with an 84-yard score. Riley Woods led the Princeton receiving corps with five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. For Anderson, All-Ohio senior quarterback Griffin Scalf threw for 364 yards and a touchdown, while running back Brodey Berg ran for 77 yards and two scores.

Middletown 47, Loveland 33 - FINAL
Middletown is 1-0 for the first time since 2019 and has matched its win total from all of last season after a triumphant road performance Friday night. The Middies did it with defense, forcing four turnovers (all interceptions) with pick-sixes from Quintin Russell and Mikell Dorn. Offensively, Middletown had success through the air with a pair of Kellen Davis touchdown tosses and three rushing scores from Lemond Chambers, who ran for 84 yards on nine attempts. Eric Schroeder led the Middies with 94 yards on the ground over 16 attempts. Loveland, which had one of the ECC's top offenses last season, split time with quarterbacks Jake Svitkovich and Julius Vorbroker, each throwing two touchdowns. Colton Endicott led the Tigers' backfield with 117 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Springboro 21, Lebanon 19 - FINAL
Evan Ruzzo's trio of first-half touchdown tosses were enough for Springboro Friday night as the Panthers held off a late fourth-quarter rally by their former GWOC-rival Lebanon Warriors. Lebanon signal-caller Brayden Everitt threw for ran for a touchdown and threw for two more, including a five-yard score to Kyle Koch to pull within two points of Springboro with 41 seconds left in regulation. Everitt's game-tying two-point conversion pass was just out of reach to seal a win for visiting Springboro. Everitt and running back Braden Kay combined for 82 rushing yards and Koch led all the Lebanon receiving corps with 54 yards on five catches. Springboro was led by Ruzzo, who had success finding Peyton Howard, who tallied a game-high 106 yards and all two touchdowns on three receptions. Allan Hopkins was the recipient of another Ruzzo touchdown and Cade Lamb led the Panthers with five catches.

The Milford Eagles made a statement with a 36-point win over Edgewood. Quarterback Austin Hardin threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns. Milford's defense got to Edgewood quarterback Riley Brown for two sacks and one interception. Next week, Milford faces ECC opponent Lebanon and Edgewood has a matchup with Clinton Massie.

The defending Ohio Division II state champs haven’t lost a step so far a year later. The Warriors led Trotwood Madison 32-0 after three quarters of play, ending up 39-16 winners with a fresh 1-0 record in 2022. Quarterback Van George and receiver Carlos Cox Jr. proved to be a strong combination as the two connected for two receptions on 68 yards, both ending as touchdowns. George was an efficient 11-15 passing for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns. James Minor III led the way on the ground, gobbling up 90 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushes. On the defensive side, Jermaine Mathews Jr. forced and recovered two fumbles.

The Luke Cripe era is off to a stellar start in Reading as the Blue Devils had no issue in running back Lockland Friday night. Offensively, the Blue Devils got 100-plus rushing yards and multiple touchdowns from both Antwon Brooks and Landen Schaefer while quarterback Dickie Engel fired touchdowns to Vincent Eadicicco and Austin Fancher. Reading scored in all three phases with Connor Davis returning a punt for a 48-yard score and Ben Kroeger scooping and scoring on a fumble from three yards out.

A 95-yard fumble return by Mitch Bradencapped Clermont Northeastern’s night, but a near shutout was lost as Clark scored with single-digit ticks left remaining. Rockets QB Josh Groeber was 3-3 for 81 yards and a touchdown while Mott had 16 carries for 128 yards and his pair of scores. The Rockets continue the year at Miami Valley Christian next Friday while Clark Montessori will meet Riverview East on Saturday.

Waynesville managed just 97 total yards of offense but still managed to knock off the defending DIV state champion Clinton-Massie Falcons for the first time since 2011. Clinton-Massie got on the board first with Gavan Hunter's 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter but were shutout the rest of the way despite running for 329 yards on 59 attempts. Waynesville knotted the score on at 7-7 in the second quarter on Blaise Sizer's 32-yard touchdown pass to Joe Stone. The Spartans took the lead for good on Connor Berrey's 11-yard fumble return touchdown with 3:13 left in the third quarter, which proved to be the game-winner.
