How the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Jets 30-10 for their second win

Two weeks, two easy wins over New York teams. After opening the season with a 40-0 win over the New York Giants, the Cowboys posted another romp in their home opener at AT&T Stadium on Sunday with a 30-10 win over the Jets.

Dak Prescott completed 31 of 38 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, CeeDee Lamb caught 11 passes for 143 yards, Tony Pollard rushed for 72 yards and Brandon Aubrey booted five field goals.

A look at the win, in reverse chronological order:

DAL 11th poss. starts at NYJ 47: Cowboys take over the ball and run out the clock as the Cowboys go to 2-0.

NYJ 10th poss. starts at NYJ 31: Wilson continues to struggle against a ferocious Cowboys pass defense and is picked off by Trevon Diggs.

DAL 10th poss. starts at DAL 8: Cowboys offense struggles to get started and goes three-and-out after the turnover and punts the ball back to the Jets.

NYJ 10th poss. starts at NYJ 25: Jets offense gets some help from a pass interference call to extend their drive but Wilson throws his second interception of the day to Malik Hooker.

DAL 9th poss. starts at NYJ 17: Cowboys start with the ball in the red zone after the Wilson interception. The Cowboys fail to convert on a third-and-goal and Brand Aubrey makes a 30-yard field goal, his fifth of the game. Cowboys lead 30-10.

NYJ 9th poss. starts at NYJ 25: The Cowboys’ pass rush forces Wilson to throw an errant pass which is intercepted by Jayron Kearse.

DAL 8th poss. starts at DAL 21: The Cowboys drive stalls out in the red zone once again and they settle for a 26-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey who is 4-of-4 on field goals in the game. Cowboys lead 27-10.

Fourth Quarter

NYJ 8th poss. starts at NYJ 25: Jets go three-and-out and punt the ball back to the Cowboys. Besides one quick touchdown, the Jets have not had success moving the ball against the Cowboys’ defense.

DAL 7th poss. starts at NYJ 39: Cowboys go three-and-out but Brandon Aubrey hits a 55-yard field goal to put the Cowboys up 24-10.

NYJ 7th poss. starts at NYJ 25: Micah Parsons forces a fumble and recovers the ball. The play is under further review. The play stands after review but the defensive touchdown is reversed and Dallas takes over possession.

DAL 6th poss. starts at DAL 42: Tony Pollard starts the Cowboys’ first second-half possession off with a 23-yard run. The drive is capped off by a Brandon Aubrey 21-yard field goal Cowboys lead 21-10

NYJ 6th poss. starts at NYJ 23: Jets go three-and-out to start the second half and continue to struggle to convert third downs. The Jets punt the ball back to the Cowboys.

Third Quarter

The Jets will receive the ball after halftime.

HALFTIME STAT CHECK COWBOYS: Dak Prescott is 21 of 26 for 165 yards with two touchdowns; Tony Pollard has a team-high 23 rushing yards; CeeDee Lamb has dominated with 106 receiving yards.

Jets: Zach Wilson is 5 of 10 for 94 yards with a touchdown; Wilson is the Jets leading rusher with 5 rushes for 36 yards; Garrett has one catch for 68 yards with a touchdown.

The Cowboys’ defense has been dominant on third down only allowing the Jets to convert one of their six third-down opportunities.

NYJ 5th poss. starts at NYJ 25: The Jets two-minute offense gets their first third-down conversion of the game and Zach Wilson uses his legs to help lead the Jets to a 34-yard field goal. Cowboys lead 18-10.

DAL 5th poss. starts at DAL 25: Cowboys offense uses a roughing the passer penalty and a pass interference penalty in the endzone to get the ball to the one-yard line. Dak Prescott throws a one-yard TD pass to rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker and Tony Pollard punches in a two-point conversion. Cowboys lead 18-7.

NYJ 4th poss. starts at NYJ 32: Zach Wilson finds Garrett Wilson on a 68-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the drive. Jets trail 10-7.

DAL 4th poss. starts at DAL 23: Cowboys go three-and-out and punt the ball back to the Jets

NYJ 3rd poss. starts at NYJ 25: Jets go three-and-out and are 0-for-4 on third down conversions in the game. Jets punt the ball back to the Cowboys.

DAL 3rd poss. starts at DAL 5: The drive starts with a penalty that pushed the Cowboys back to their own three-yard line. Prescott then finds CeeDee Lamb on a 33-yard strike. The drive stalls in the red zone and the Cowboys settle for a 35-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal. Cowboys lead 10-0.

Second Quarter

NYJ 2nd poss. starts at NYJ 10: Jets go three-and-out on their second possession but fake the punt to convert on fourth down. However, Jets failed to capitalize and punt three plays later.

DAL 2nd poss. starts at DAL 31: Cowboys offense goes three-and-out on their second drive after Deuce Vaughn fails to convert on third down. Dallas punts the ball back to the Jets.

NYJ 1st poss. starts at NYJ 25: The Cowboys force a three-and-out and Micah Parsons sacks Zach Wilson on third down, the first Cowboys sack of the game. The Jets punt is fair caught by KaVontae Turpin.

DAL 1st poss. starts at DAL 25: The Cowboys march down the field on their first possession with a good mix of running and passing, punctuated by a Dak Prescott four-yard pass to Jake Ferguson for a touchdown. Cowboys lead 7-0.

The Dallas Cowboys win the toss and elect to receive.

NFC EAST UPDATE

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Minnesota Vikings 34-28 on Thursday night to improve to 2-0. The Cowboys need a win to keep pace with the Eagles at the top of the division.

The New York Giants play the Arizona Cardinals at 3:05 p.m. CT and will try to win their first game of the season. The Washington Commanders will play the Denver Broncos at 3:25 p.m. CT attempting to win their second game of the year.
