Game recap: Florida State loses to UNC in College Cup semifinal 3-2

Florida State women's soccer faces a familiar foe as it attempts to defend its NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship Friday night in the College Cup Semifinals in Cary, N.C. (TV: ESPNU).

The top-seeded Seminoles (17-2-3) face ACC rival and two-seeded North Carolina (19-4-1) at 6 p.m. in the first of two semifinals. Alabama and UCLA are scheduled to play at 8:30 p.m.

The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.

The Tar Heels defeated FSU 2-1 in Tallahassee during the regular season on Oct. 20, but the Seminoles topped UNC 2-1 in the ACC Tournament Finals on Nov. 6.

The ACC Tournament was also played at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Florida State is attempting to become the first team since North Carolina (2008-09) as repeat champions. The Seminoles won last year's national championship in PKs lover BYU and also have championships in 2014 and 2018.

The Seminoles are in their first year under head coach Brian Pensky following the departure of legendary coach Mark Krikorian following the championship run last season.
