Game recap: Jaguars force 4 turnovers, beat Titans in Tennessee for first time since 2013

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon with a Week 14 trip to the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

The Jaguars have struggled badly in their visits to Music City. The Jaguars haven't beaten the Titans in Nashville since 2013, an eight-game road losing streak in the series.

The big question for Jaguars fans through the week: What can they expect from Trevor Lawrence? The second-year quarterback suffered a foot injury at the end of the first half of last week's loss to the Detroit Lions, and although he returned to the game, he was out for some practices this week. C.J. Beathard is ready to step in if needed on Sunday.

Sunday's game also means a Jaguars matchup against Tennessee running back Derrick Henry, a Northeast Florida native who shattered the national high school football rushing yardage record at Yulee High School on his way to consecutive NFL rushing titles. Henry is coming off a rocky November, but the Jaguars have found themselves on the wrong end of two 200-yard ground games against him in the past.

4:15 p.m. | FINAL: Jaguars 36, Titans 22

The Jaguars' Nashville nightmares are over. They've beaten the Titans on the road for the first time since 2013.

4:09 p.m. | Jaguars defense gets crucial stop

So much for that Tennessee comeback bid.

Yes, Ryan Tannehill did get the ball across midfield. But Tyson Campbell broke up a pass on first down, Josh Allen ended his long sack slump on second down and the quarterback misfired on third down (underthrow) and fourth down (overthrow).

The Jaguars are going to win this one.

4 p.m. | Jaguars go three-and-out

That's not what the Jaguars needed. Up two scores, they did convert a first down on a 21-yarder to Chris Manhertz, but they weren't able to drain any additional time. Trevor Lawrence wasn't able to scramble for third and 10, and the Jaguars are set to punt with 5:34 to go. They still lead Tennessee 36-22.

3:52 p.m. | Touchdown Titans: Tennessee drives upfield fast, scores on Ryan Tannehill pass

That's the Titans' most effective drive this half. Ryan Tannehill mixed things up, including a scramble down inside the Jacksonville 5. To end the possession, he lofted a pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for the first Tennessee touchdown since the first half. The score held up after a replay review, and Tannehill converted a two-point play to Chigoziem Okonkwo.

Jaguars 36, Titans 22, 7:15 4th.

3:42 p.m. | Field goal: Riley Patterson on target again

Once again, a Tennessee turnover turns into points. The Jaguars don't make it to the end zone but Riley Patterson boots yet another field goal to extend the lead to 22.

Jaguars 36, Titans 14, 10:52 4th.

3:37 p.m. | Titans turn over again, Arden Key recovers

That's miscue number four for Tennessee. It's a botched exchange on a trick play to Derrick Henry, and Arden Key pounces on the fumble at the Titans' 30.

3:36 p.m. | Jaguars denied on fourth down

The Jaguars weren't able to score on this drive, despite an Evan Engram catch-and-run that got the Jags into position for fourth-and-short. Tennessee takes over on downs.

3:33 p.m. | END OF THIRD QUARTER: Jaguars 33, Titans 14

The Jaguars have transformed this football game. They're closing in on their first win in Nashville since 2013.

3:25 p.m. | Titans go three-and-out again

The Jaguars' defense is on fire right now. Foley Fatukasi added a rare sack on Ryan Tannehill, and Andrew Wingard delivered a punishing tackle in the open field to deny Tennessee on third down. The Jags get the ball back late in Q3, up three scores.

3:18 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence to Evan Engram connection adds to lead

The Jaguars have piled up 27 consecutive points. The losing skid in Nashville is ready to end after eight years.

This is a career game for Evan Engram (10 receptions, 152 yards), and a very good one for Trevor Lawrence. After a DPI call against the Titans, quarterback and tight end linked up again on a perfect sideline pass in the end zone. Engram kept those feet in bounds and pulled it in for the 21-yard score. Lawrence is now above 300 yards passing on the game.

Jaguars 33, Titans 14, 3:07 3rd.

3:10 p.m. | Dominant stop from Jaguars D

This defense is feeling some energy out there. An Arden Key sack and a swarming tackle by virtually the entire Jacksonville defense pushed the Titans inside their own 10. The Jaguars are taking over after the punt.

3:02 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence runs into end zone

A really good game continues for Trevor Lawrence.

The quarterback connected on first-down throws again and again, to Zay Jones, to Evan Engram and to Jamal Agnew. Then, the second-year QB — bad toe or not — took a bootleg around the right end and lunged at full length for the end zone. That's a touchdown. This game has turned around completely.

Jaguars 27, Titans 14, 7:53 3rd.

2:50 p.m. | Jamal Agnew TD nullified by holding flag

Wow. Jamal Agnew returned the kickoff for a touchdown, but... the Jaguars' Caleb Johnson got whistled for holding, plus a 15-yard taunting penalty called against K'Lavon Chaisson. The TD is wiped off the board.

2:48 p.m. | Second half kicks off

Back to the show in Tennessee. Jacksonville will receive that kickoff.

2:35 p.m. | HALFTIME: Jaguars 20, Titans 14

That's halftime. Derrick Henry has repeatedly hammered this Jacksonville defense, but with three takeaways, the Jags are entering the break with the lead. Evan Engram has turned in probably his best first half as a Jaguar as well.

2:28 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Zay Jones stays in bounds with acrobatic sideline catch

Was that a touchdown? Trevor Lawrence looked for the end zone, Kevin Byard got a piece of it and receiver Zay Jones kept his concentration to grab the tipped ball while walking a virtual tightrope along the sideline. Officials ruled it incomplete on the field.

After a review, the verdict: Touchdown! That was a real highlight catch from Zay Jones, and it's the third time the Jaguars have converted Tennessee miscues into points.

Jaguars 20, Titans 14, 0:11 2nd.

2:23 p.m. | Turnover: Jags' Shaquille Quarterman forces Derrick Henry fumble

Wow. That's a Northeast Florida-on-Northeast Florida turnover there.

Yulee's Derrick Henry was motoring down the sideline on a pass to the flat when former Oakleaf star Shaquille Quarterman crashed into him and jarred the ball loose. Right on the spot was Josh Allen, recovering for the Jags at the Jacksonville 22.

The Jaguars are plus-3 in turnover margin but still behind on the scoreboard, with less than two minutes to go.

2:16 p.m. | Field goal Jaguars: Riley Patterson slices Tennessee lead

Trevor Lawrence has had some nice completions in this second quarter. The Jaguars quarterback advanced the team across midfield again, improving to 11 of 18 for 118 yards today.

But Zay Jones wasn't able to come up with passes on second and third down, particularly a bad drop on the latter toss. That led to a 43-yard field goal from Riley Patterson, his second of the game.

Unfortunately for the Jags, Patterson booted the ensuing kickoff out of bounds to give Tennessee superb field position.

Titans 14, Jaguars 13, 3:10 2nd.

2:04 p.m. | Titans go three-and-out

The Jaguars escaped potential disaster on that possession. Appropriately-named Tennessee speedster Racey McMath won the race with Jags DB Darious Williams on a deep ball, but Ryan Tannehill overthrew him on third down. Tennessee didn't hand off to Derrick Henry on that drive at all, and it's safe to say the Jags' defenders won't complain.

1:58 p.m. | Field goal: Riley Patterson converts kick after turnover

It's not a touchdown, but Andrew Wingard's interception does lead to points. It's a 37-yard field goal from Riley Patterson to get the Jaguars into double figures.

Evan Engram has been having a nice game for the Jaguars. The tight end has caught four passes for 61 yards, including a couple of grabs that advanced the Jaguars inside the red zone. But he also picked up a holding flag on a Travis Etienne run later in the drive, which brought the Jacksonville advance to a halt.

Titans 14, Jaguars 10, 8:52 2nd.

1:49 p.m. | Interception: Andrew Wingard picks off Ryan Tannehill

That's takeaway No. 2 from the Jaguars' defense. Will they make it count?

Ryan Tannehill had led the Titans across midfield, including a pass to a leaping Robert Woods across midfield, but the Tennessee quarterback will want that one back. He drilled a pass directly to Andrew Wingard and the Jaguars safety grabbed it for the pick. The Jaguars take over with favorable field position.

1:43 p.m. | End of first quarter: Titans 14, Jaguars 7

It's 15 minutes in the books, and for those keeping score, Derrick Henry has already gained 96 yards (90 rushing, 6 receiving) against the Jaguars' defense.

1:42 p.m. | Jacksonville drive stalls inside 40

When not presented with a short field, this offense is struggling. The Jaguars did get a first down, but Tennessee's Bud Dupree then squashed Travis Etienne for a loss of 6 and the Jacksonville drive stalled out quickly. An awkward Logan Cooke punt delivered the ball to Tennessee around the 30.

1:35 p.m. | Chigoziem Okonkwo puts Titans on top

That's the Derrick Henry effect: Even when the Yulee native appears to be struggling, he's one play away from changing the game. That time, Henry ran to his right and zipped upfield for a gain of 50. That's the seventh time in his Titans career that he's gained 30 or more on a single play against the Jaguars.

From there, Ryan Tannehill passed to Chigoziem Okonkwo and the tight end hurdled a couple of Jaguars to restore the Tennessee lead. Travon Walker strip-sack aside, this isn't an encouraging opening for the Jacksonville defense.

Titans 14, Jaguars 7, 3:03 1st.

1:27 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Evan Engram catches TD from Trevor Lawrence

The Jaguars converted that fumble into points.

On third and 2 from the 12, Trevor Lawrence looked to his right and found an open Evan Engram for a 12-yard catch-and-run. Officials tossed a flag on the play but it was against Tennessee for illegal use of hands, and with the penalty declined, the Jaguars are officially on the board and tied with the Titans. Give credit to the pass rush, not always a consistent source of Jags highlights in 2022, for that one.

Jaguars 7, Titans 7, 6:01 1st.

1:25 p.m. | Big play: Travon Walker strip-sack sets up Jags

That's what the Jaguars needed right there.

After Andrew Wingard, back in the game, stopped a Derrick Henry run on first down, Travon Walker came through with a highlight. The No. 1 overall draft pick beat a tight end in a blocking matchup and strip-sacked Ryan Tannehill from behind, and Dawuane Smoot recovered for the Jaguars on the 20. The Jags are in business.

1:19 p.m. | Three-and-out for Jaguars

That's not the way the Jags wanted to begin on offense. Kevin Byard broke up a first-down pass by Trevor Lawrence and Lawrence's third-down attempt fluttered wide — the QB might have had his arm hit during the delivery. It all adds up to a quick punt.

1:13 p.m. | Touchdown Titans: Derrick Henry bulldozes into end zone

Well, at least the first play was a good one for the Jaguars. Tennessee tried for a flea flicker, but Tyson Campbell saw it coming and batted down the deep ball from Ryan Tannehill.

But after that... an offside on Travon Walker. Illegal contact on Darious Williams. An injury to safety Andrew Wingard, already in the lineup because of an injury to Andre Cisco. A bunch of right-on-target throws from Tannehill to move the ball up the field. And finally, a 3-yard plunge by Yulee's one and only Derrick Henry to push the Titans in front.

Titans 7, Jaguars 0, 9:09 1st.
