The Jacksonville Jaguars kicked off their TIAA Bank Field schedule for the 2022 NFL season with the home opener against the AFC South rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.

The Jaguars dropped their season opener in Week 1 last week to the Washington Commanders, Doug Pederson's first game as head coach. Second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 275 yards in his season debut against Washington, but also threw a crucial late interception as a fourth-quarter lead dissolved. The Jaguars are working out how to split touches between running backs James Robinson and Travis Etienne.

Indianapolis came off a rare 20-20 tie against the Houston Texans, with quarterback Matt Ryan leading the rally from 17 points down to spark the Colts' comeback.

Despite their struggles in recent seasons, the Jaguars have dominated the home matchups against the Colts of late. The Jags have beaten Indianapolis in seven consecutive home games dating back to 2015, whether genuine home games on the First Coast or officially-designated home games played across the Atlantic Ocean in London.

6:25 p.m. | Jaguars plan to build on shutout win vs. Colts

The Jaguars dominated the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, pitching a shutout victory over their division rival. It was the third shutout the Jaguars have posted since 2017 — all three came against the Colts. They've had eight in franchise history.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said after the game this team taught him plenty about itself.

"I just learned that this group is eager to win. They want to win, and they put in the hard work during the week and that's something I'm very proud of," Pederson said in his post-game press conference. | Read more --Demetrius Harvey

6:10 p.m. | On target: Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence dramatically bumps his completion percentage vs. Colts

The national talking heads were all over Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence after he completed 57 percent of his passes and had a 75.0 rating in last week’s 28-22 loss against the Washington Commanders.

3:58 p.m. | Jaguars extend Colts' Jax Jinx: 5 takeaways from Jacksonville win

The Jacksonville Jaguars opened up their home slate against the divisional rival Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, a game that Jacksonville has dominated at home over the past seven seasons.

The beat-down continued Saturday as Jacksonville came away with its first win of the Doug Pederson era, defeating Indianapolis 24-0.

The Jaguars' last shutout victory came in 2018, against the Colts, 6-0. The Jaguars have not lost at home to the Colts (0-1-1) since 2014. That's domination. | Read more --Demetrius Harvey

3:46 p.m. | FINAL: Jaguars 24, Colts 0

First win in Jacksonville for Doug Pederson. First shutout for this defense since 2018. First place for the Jaguars in the AFC South.

A good day on the First Coast for Jags fans.

3:39 p.m. | Interception! Andre Cisco makes another pick

That's another turnover by Matt Ryan, who is clearly less than 100 percent and launching really off-target passes. This one air-mails everybody and Andre Cisco, playing center field, picks it off for the Jaguars.

That's three INTs for the Jaguars D, and this game is now at the TWO-MINUTE WARNING.

3:37 p.m. | Jaguars punt, pin Colts deep

No progress on the drive for the Jaguars, but this team is still in control.

3:35 p.m. | It's a pick: Devin Lloyd with milestone interception

Welcome to the NFL, Devin Lloyd.

The Jaguars' rookie linebacker has his first regular season interception and probably the easiest one he will ever see. Matt Ryan floated a wounded football into the air, directly to Lloyd over the middle.

3:32 p.m. | Jaguars' offense stopped again

It's another three-and-out for Jacksonville, after Zay Jones was unable to grasp a third-down pass. The punt is returned across midfield.

The Jaguars, up 24-0, are 5:12 from victory.

3:29 p.m. | Jaguars preserve shutout, deny Colts inside 10

Ouch. Matt Ryan has taken a beating, and it looks like it's starting to take a toll on the veteran Colts QB. He was slow to get up after absorbing a hit on third down inside the red zone.

Indianapolis advanced inside the 10 but the Jaguars' D stood firm again. Devin Lloyd nearly picked off Ryan on second down and Rayshawn Jenkins destroyed the attempt on fourth down. A bunch of big plays for Jenkins in that Jacksonville secondary today.

The shutout remains with 6:16 to go.

3:23 p.m. | Jaguars go three-and-out

That drive didn't last long for the Jaguars. Logan Cooke punts it away. But the Jaguars are still up 24-0 in the fourth quarter.

3:17 p.m. | Colts advance to red zone, Jags' defense stands tall

Jonathan Taylor is finally finding his rhythm. Is it too late for the Colts? Probably.

The star running back carried the ball for a couple of big gains into Jacksonville territory. Matt Ryan completed a pass inside the 10 to Michael Strachan, on a play when Tyson Campbell appeared to lose the ball in the air.

Sacksonville then roared. Rayshawn Jenkins broke up a TD by knocking Mo Alie-Cox out of the back of the end zone, Roy Robertson-Harris sacked Ryan (Adam Gotsis had downed the QB earlier in the drive) and the Colts committed OPI. On fourth down, Ryan heaved one to the end zone but the Jags' D broke it up. The shutout remains.

The one negative for the Jaguars: An injury to key cornerback Campbell late in the drive.

3:14 p.m. | Colts vs. Jaguars history: Jacksonville on course to continue dominance

It's hard to explain why the Jaguars have dominated the series at home over the last seven years, but there's no question: When this game is in the 904, the Jags come out on top. | Read more --Garry Smits

3:03 p.m. | END OF THIRD QUARTER: Jacksonville 24, Indianapolis 0

The Jaguars are up by 24. Repeat, the Jaguars are up by 24.

Doug Pederson is closing in on his first win as Jacksonville's head coach.

2:58 p.m. | Touchdown Jacksonville: Trevor Lawrence to Christian Kirk again

Short pass. Short pass. Scramble. Patience. Trevor Lawrence is picking the Indianapolis defense apart.

Christian Kirk was the star of the show on this drive, catching a couple of passes for sizable chunks. Then, the Colts committed defensive holding, James Robinson rushed for a first down inside the red zone and Lawrence brought the offense closer still with his second key run of the possession.

Fourth down, and the Jaguars went for it... and Lawrence rolled out, flipping a pass to Kirk in the end zone for a 6-yard score. That's the end of a 12-play, 92-yard drive that consumed more than seven minutes.

Jaguars 24, Colts 0, 0:17 3rd.

2:44 p.m. | Jacksonville defense makes another stop

Where was this Jaguars defense last week in Washington? Matt Ryan did connect on a couple of passes for the Colts, but the latest drive ended like most of the others for Indianapolis. Foye Oluokun swatted down a pass on third down and Frank Reich called for the punt team.

About the only down side for the Jaguars: They'll be pinned down inside their own 10.

2:38 p.m. | Jaguars drive ends near midfield

The Jaguars got some momentum going in that drive but couldn't convert it into points. A short pass to Evan Engram and a first-down rush by James Robinson were the highlights. Trevor Lawrence threw a dangerous pass on third down that almost fell into the clutches of Stephon Gilmore.

Still, the Jags consumed more than four minutes on the clock. Logan Cooke's punt almost pinned the Colts deep, but the football hopped into the end zone for a touchback. Indy takes over on the 20.

2:32 p.m. | Third quarter begins at TIAA Bank Field

It's the second half now. The Jaguars are beginning on offense with a 17-0 lead.

2:18 p.m. | HALFTIME: Jaguars 17, Colts 0

What a first half for Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen and the Jaguars.

2:17 p.m. | Arden Key sack derails Colts' latest drive

Can't count out the Colts. They came back from 17 points down last week against Houston.

Matt Ryan starts the two-minute drill with a couple of short passes to advance the football across the 40. But an illegal shift halted Indy's momentum, Arden Key sacked Ryan one play later and the Colts' drive slammed to a halt.

2:09 p.m. | Field goal for Riley Patterson extends Jaguars' edge

Solid drive for the Jags, yet again -- but it could've been more. James Robinson is finding a rhythm, moving across midfield. Then, on third down, Evan Engram powered through a tackle to lunge for the first down.

Then, the near miss: Trevor Lawrence went long to an open Jamal Agnew in the end zone, but the football fluttered between Agnew's arms. So close for the Jaguars to a 21-point edge. Instead, Riley Patterson entered to boot a perfect 52-yarder through the upright. This team is dominating the clock.

Jaguars 17, Colts 0, 1:43 2nd.

1:55 p.m. | Jaguars D stuffs Indy again

The Colts are going nowhere fast. The Jaguars' defense comes up with another quick stop, and even when Matt Ryan delivers a pass on the money, it results in a drop by the Indy receiver on the scene. Darious Williams might be credited with a partial PBU on that one.

That's a punt, yet again. Trevor Lawrence and the offense are back in possession, now with a 14-point lead.

1:48 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: James Robinson to the end zone

Yes, NFL, he is back. James Robinson takes a handoff to the left, gets a solid block by Cam Robinson at left tackle and zooms to the end zone from 37 yards. That was impressive.

Trevor Lawrence had kept the drive moving earlier, rolling to his left and delivering a strike to Christian Kirk. It's a great start for the Jags at the Bank.

Jaguars 14, Colts 0, 7:52 2nd.

1:40 p.m. | Sacksonville is back: Josh Allen makes another sack

A terrific start for the Jaguars' defense continues. Josh Allen brings down Matt Ryan for his second sack of the afternoon, and that forces another Indy three-and-out.

Jamal Agnew returns the punt and the Jacksonville offense begins its third drive of the day.

1:35 p.m. | Jaguars go three-and-out, escape near-pick

No more perfection for Trevor Lawrence, and almost an interception. Faced with a third-and-10, the quarterback went long and nearly got picked off by Colts DB Julian Blackmon (not to be confused with former Jaguars first-round draft pick Justin Blackmon). He's still 7 of 8 on the day.

After a short Logan Cooke punt, Indianapolis takes over near midfield.

1:31 p.m. | END OF FIRST QUARTER: Jacksonville 7, Indianapolis 0

Wacky play. As the rain pours down, Josh Allen hits Matt Ryan from the back and several Jaguars flop in the direction of the slickened, slippery football before Indianapolis gets it back with a sizable loss. But the sack halted the Indianapolis possession, and the punt ends the possession.

The Jaguars take over to begin the second quarter at their own 16.

1:28 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence to Christian Kirk

Fourth-down gamble alert. The Jaguars kept the offense on the field for fourth and 3 at the Indianapolis 47, and Trevor Lawrence connected with Zay Jones to convert the play. Then followed a weird offsetting-penalties situation (Marvin Jones flagged for taunting after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit), but James Robinson picked up another conversion on third-and-1.

The marathon drive continued when Travis Etienne ran the ball inside the red zone, and on third down, Lawrence fired a strike to Christian Kirk for a 10-yard touchdown. That's a way to punish a turnover.

Trevor Lawrence? Looking good early, completing his first seven passes.

Jaguars 7, Colts 0, 2:21 1st.

1:07 p.m. | Interception! Jags' Rayshawn Jenkins picks off pass

Matt Ryan was off to a solid start for Indy - until Rayshawn Jenkins snuffed out the drive. The veteran quarterback opened with a 19-yard pass to Nyheim Hines and converted a third down to Ashton Dulin.

But facing another third down, the veteran QB hurled a most un-veteran-like pass that floated into traffic, and Jaguars safety Jenkins gratefully gobbled it up. That's an interception, and it's one that will get plenty of cheers from Jenkins' many fans in the stands for this week.

Trevor Lawrence and the Jags' offense are going to work.

1:02 p.m. | Jaguars kick off, Colts go on offense

This game is officially underway. Matt Ryan and Indianapolis are starting this game on offense.

12:58 p.m. | Jaguars, Colts near kickoff

It's almost here. The Jaguars are about to begin their 28th season of home NFL football against the Indianapolis Colts, the team they've beaten seven consecutive times in designated home games. Follow the Times-Union for updates through the afternoon.

12:40 p.m. | Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has come up huge against Jaguars — at his home stadium

Jonathan Taylor has been a holy terror against the Jaguars since he entered the NFL in 2020 — at home.

12:10 p.m. | Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson didn't let misses rattle him as other kickers struggled, too

Week 1 was not kind to NFL kickers.

That's why the Jaguars' Riley Patterson was able to take his miss of a 37-yard field-goal attempt on the final play of the first half against the Washington Commanders in stride — especially since he came back to connect from 43 and 45 yards in the second half, giving him 3 of 4 in his debut with the Jags. | Read more --Garry Smits

In Cartersville, Ga., a city roughly 45 miles north of downtown Atlanta, a young Trevor Lawrence grew up rooting for the Falcons. 11:30 a.m. | Jaguars return home to TIAA Bank Field, look to get first win of season vs. Indianapolis Colts

The way Jacksonville lost last week wasn't anything short of gut-wrenching for the players and staff, especially knowing they let it slip away — self-inflicted.

The Jaguars (0-1) have put their demons to rest from last week, moving on to this week's opponent, the Indianapolis Colts (0-0-1), a matchup that has seen Jacksonville come out victorious in Jacksonville (or London) since 2015, at least at home. | Read more --Demetrius Harvey

11:20 a.m. | Jaguars' home winning streak against the Colts has included blowouts, defensive struggles

The Jaguars have the Indianapolis Colts right where they want them: in TIAA Bank Field on Sunday, where the Colts haven't won since 2014.

The keys to the Jaguars' seven-game home winning streak over the Colts (counting the 2016 game in London, designated as a Jags home game) follow the same road map to winning most NFL games: good quarterback play and forcing turnovers, sprinkled with solid special teams. | Read more --Garry Smits

11:10 a.m. | Teammates to rivals: Jaguars LB Foye Oluokun 'excited' to compete against Colts QB Matt Ryan

11 a.m. | Gene Frenette: James Robinson, Travis Etienne need to be bigger part of winning formula

In an NFL age where offense-friendly rules favor quarterbacks and attacking through the air, it can be tough for coaches to resist the urge to become pass-happy.

That’s especially true when the quarterbacks operating those offenses are the likes of Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes or even 24–year-old Los Angeles Chargers gunslinger Justin Herbert.

Obviously, it’s much more tempting to let elite QBs carry the burden of throwing early and often to win games. But even that group understands the value of an efficient running attack in short-yardage and red-zone situations. | Read more --Gene Frenette
