Postgame recap: Trevor Lawrence leads Jacksonville Jaguars rally past Baltimore Ravens

The Jacksonville Jaguars returned from their bye week and Thanksgiving on Sunday, taking on the Baltimore Ravens at TIAA Bank Field for Week 12 of the 2022 NFL season. Kickoff will be 1 p.m.

The game matched a quarterback who shows signs of rising in second-year Jags QB Trevor Lawrence against an opponent who's already near the top of the sport in Baltimore's Lamar Jackson. For Jackson, born in Pompano Beach in South Florida, Sunday's game marked a return to the Sunshine State.

As always, the Jaguars had to watch out for Jackson as a runner as well. He ranked 14th in the NFL with 666 yards rushing so far, second among quarterbacks behind Chicago's Justin Fields. Among the players with more rushing yards than Jackson: Jaguars second-year running back Travis Etienne, 10th in the league at 725 yards.

Fans might be surprised to know that the Jaguars lead the all-time series against the Ravens 12-10, primarily because of winning eight consecutive matchups from 1996 to 1999 when the teams met twice a year in the old AFC Central Division.

This wild game is over. Justin Tucker came up just short.

Lamar Jackson passed to Josh Oliver to advance the football to midfield with 2 seconds to go. John Harbaugh summoned his kicker for what would have been the longest field goal in NFL history, 67 yards. This one came up a few yards short of the goalpost.

It's VICTORY for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, 28-27 over Baltimore. The Jags improve to 4-7.

4:39 p.m. | 2-point try is good: Zay Jones scores for Jaguars

The Jaguars are in front. Zay Jones goes left and Trevor Lawrence fires a strike. There is a signature drive for Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville.

Jaguars 28, Ravens 28, 0:14 4th.

4:36 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: TD to Marvin Jones holds up: 2-pointer to come

The Jaguars needed a touchdown. They got it.

To begin the possession, Calais Campbell burst through for a strip-sack on Trevor Lawrence, setting up third and 21 and forcing Doug Pederson to burn his final timeout, but Lawrence converted with passes to Christian Kirk and Marvin Jones. Then a leaping Kirk catch across midfield inside a minute to go, and an out route to Zay Jones. Then came one of his best passes of the game, a cannon to Zay Jones at the 10.

Lawrence looked to the end zone. Marvin Jones leaped for it, bringing the football down with his right foot for a play ruled a TD. The call held up after replay review.

With 14 seconds left, Doug Pederson is going for two and the win...

4:26 p.m. | Two-minute warning

Can the Jaguars come back once more? If not, that 62-yard pass — and the ensuing Josh Oliver score — will leave a painful sting for Jags fans for a while to come. They need a touchdown and a PAT.

4:23 p.m. | Touchdown Ravens: Former Jag Josh Oliver scores after long pass

The Jaguars thought they had the Ravens stopped.

First a drop, then a holding penalty. The Ravens faced third and 20. But Lamar Jackson worked his magic, stepping away from the rush and then bombing a 62-yard cannon downfield to DeSean Jackson. The veteran wideout had broken behind safety Rayshawn Jenkins and rookie linebacker Chad Muma, in an obviously unfavorable matchup in coverage.

Then, former Jaguar Josh Oliver reeled in a pass from Lamar Jackson for the go-ahead score. Oliver only caught two passes at TIAA Bank Field in his Jaguars career. Mark Andrews got the two-point conversion for Baltimore.

Ravens 27, Jaguars 20, 2:02 4th

4:13 p.m. | Field goal Jaguars: Riley Patterson kick pushes Jags back in front

The Jaguars couldn't turn the turnover into a touchdown. Baltimore linebacker Roquan Smith tackled Jamal Agnew on a third-down screen that threatened to find the end zone.

But Jacksonville is, finally, back in front. Riley Patterson converted the field goal from 29 yards, and the Jaguars are in front in the waning moments.

Jaguars 20, Ravens 19, 4:19 4th.

4:11 p.m. | Fumble! Tyson Campbell comes up with third Baltimore turnover

The Jaguars' defense is back in command. Andrew Wingard stripped Gus Edwards on the run, and Tyson Campbell recovered the football. The Jacksonville offense is already in position for a go-ahead field goal with 5:42 to go.

4:06 p.m. | Touchdown Jaguars: Jamal Agnew finds end zone after strong drive

For the first time in this second half, the Jaguars' offense showed some life.

Passes from Trevor Lawrence to Jamal Agnew and Zay Jones advanced the football across midfield. At that point, Baltimore corner Marlon Humphrey blew up a jet sweep to Christian Kirk, and a third-down pass was nearly intercepted along the sideline. But on fourth and 8, Lawrence found Jones deep downfield inside the 20 for a crucial conversion.

JaMycal Hasty then took another short pass down to the 1, and two plays later, Lawrence passed to Agnew on the right sideline for a score. The Jags are still alive in this one. The drive advanced 75 yards in 7:12.

Ravens 19, Jaguars 17, 5:55 4th.

3:54 p.m. | Touchdown Ravens: Gus Edwards plunges into end zone

The Jaguars couldn't keep Baltimore out of the end zone all day.

Boosted by Marcus Peters' fumble recovery and the ensuing short field, the Ravens finally got into the end zone. At first, Lamar Jackson appeared to have the score, taking a QB draw into the end zone from 6 yards on third and 3. Officials reviewed the play, though, and ruled the QB short of the end zone.

On first down from inches out, Mark Andrews dropped a pass from Jackson, but Gus Edwards plunged into the end zone from 1 yard. No question about that one.

Ravens 19, Jaguars 10, 13:07 4th.

3:43 p.m. | END OF THIRD QUARTER: Ravens 12, Jaguars 10

Lamar Jackson is on the move, and Baltimore is trying to turn that takeaway into a two-score lead.

3:41 p.m. | Fumble: Trevor Lawrence loses ball on scramble

A miscue from Trevor Lawrence. Facing third down, he tried to scramble away from pressure but didn't see Tyus Bowser approaching from the back side, and got crunched for a fumble. Marcus Peters recovered for the Ravens on the Jacksonville 25.

3:35 p.m. | Jaguars stop Baltimore at midfield

It's a long drive for Baltimore, but not an especially productive one. The Ravens drove from their own 1 to near midfield, but the drive ran out of steam there, after a Devin Duvernay drop on second down and an extreme overthrow by Lamar Jackson on third down. The Baltimore QB has been off target a number of times in this one.

The Jaguars take over on their own 20 after a punt and touchback.

3:25 p.m. | Jaguars go three-and-out once more

It's a recurring theme in this half: Third down and 5, and the Jaguars come up short in the passing game. This time, Trevor Lawrence throws to Evan Engram, but the Ravens bring down the tight end for only 4 yards. Nothing is going on downfield right now for the Jags.

Doug Pederson sent the offense back out for fourth down to see if the Ravens would jump offside, but they didn't, and after a delay-of-game flag, Logan Cooke arrived to punt. The Jags downed the ball at the Baltimore 1, leaving the Ravens in miserable field position.

3:18 p.m. | Field goal: Ravens back on top on Justin Tucker kick

This Baltimore team can get up the field in a hurry. Lamar Jackson launched a pass downfield to former Jaguar tight end Josh Oliver, working against Josh Allen in coverage, for a gain of 40 yards.

Then, a pass to Devin Duvernay, a Jackson scramble inside the 20 and a third-down conversion by Gus Edwards three plays later. But DaVon Hamilton brought down Lamar Jackson on third down, forcing the Ravens to settle for a 24-yard field goal by Justin Tucker. The Jaguars are getting the stops when they need them most, but they're having to work from behind again.

Ravens 12, Jaguars 10, 7:51 3rd.

3:09 p.m. | Jags open half with three-and-out

That wasn't the way to take advantage of receiving the second-half kickoff. Trevor Lawrence threw an incompletion on first down, and two short tosses didn't move across the sticks as Baltimore's Tyus Bowser tackled Marvin Jones on third down.

Logan Cooke launched a 68-yard punt that the Jaguars couldn't quite down inside the 5. It'll be a touchback and a Ravens possession on the 20.

3:05 p.m. | Jaguars ready to receive second-half kickoff

Getting back to the action at TIAA Bank Field. Can the Jags hold on to beat the Ravens for the first time since 2017?

2:52 p.m. | HALFTIME: Jacksonville Jaguars 10, Baltimore Ravens 9

That's halftime. It's been a solid first half for Trevor Lawrence and a gritty performance from the Jacksonville defense, which has been pushed backward but continues to stand firm in the red zone to limit the Ravens to field goals.

2:50 p.m. | Field goal: Riley Patterson restores Jacksonville lead

The Jaguars are having success finding the running backs out of the backfield. This time, Trevor Lawrence connected with JaMycal Hasty for a pass down to the Baltimore 6.

The quarterback completed 10 of his first 11 passes, but not the 12th, which sailed out of the end zone on the roll-out on third down. So Riley Patterson entered for a 22-yard field goal.

Jaguars 10, Ravens 9, 0:10 2nd.

2:36 p.m. | Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville sets off social media with Speedo in Ravens game

Jaxson de Ville is at it again.

This time, the Jaguars mascot didn't gain traction on social media for bungee jumping off the top of TIAA Bank Field. He set Twitter ablaze for showing a little fur during Jacksonville's game against the Baltimore Ravens. | Read more --Dan Rorabaugh

2:34 p.m. | Field goal: Tucker boots third field goal, Ravens back in front

This isn't news, but Lamar Jackson is so dangerous, and the Jaguars are getting an up-close look. The Baltimore QB dashed away from several near-sacks on that drive, including a scramble to convert third and 10 after Andre Cisco had nearly intercepted a pass on the previous snap.

Jackson then completed another third down with a strike to DeSean Jackson along the sideline. The drive ran out of steam shortly afterward with a third-down incompletion, but Justin Tucker arrived to drill a long field goal from 55 yards through the uprights. Baltimore is back in front.

Ravens 9, Jaguars 7, 4:51 2nd.

2:21 p.m. | Touchdown: JaMycal Hasty puts Jaguars in front

That's a big play, even without Travis Etienne in action.

JaMycal Hasty makes the run down the right sideline out of the backfield and Trevor Lawrence finds him with a well-aimed pass from 28 yards. After a pretty ineffective start on offense, the Jaguars are in front.

Jaguars 7, Ravens 6, 9:57 2nd.

2:18 p.m. | Jaguars stuff Ravens on fourth down at midfield

A lot of close short-yardage plays around midfield in this one — and this time, the Jaguars come out on top.

Lamar Jackson thought he had converted third and inches, but the officials re-spotted the ball after initially giving him the first down. Then, on fourth down, Jackson ran into a wall of Jags, and the ball came loose. DaVon Hamilton, who recovered, was among several Jaguars defenders making the tackle short of the chains.

The Jaguars will take over around the 50.

2:06 p.m. | END OF FIRST QUARTER: Ravens 6, Jaguars 0

The Jaguars are behind once more after a quarter, but the defense has kept Lamar Jackson out of the end zone so far.

2:05 p.m. | Jaguars RB Travis Etienne questionable with foot injury

Not a good sign: Travis Etienne is headed to the locker room. He is reported questionable with a foot injury.

2:03 p.m. | Jaguars go three and out

That's not an effective start for the Jaguars' offense. They're punting again after a Trevor Lawrence pass bounces off the receiver on third down.

1:57 p.m. | Field goal: Justin Tucker converts again for Ravens

Baltimore converts the field position to points, but not a touchdown. Gus Edwards picked up a couple of nice runs, but Demarcus Robinson couldn't complete a diving attempt on Lamar Jackson's pass to the end zone. So kicker Justin Tucker came on for another field goal to extend the Ravens' lead.

Ravens 6, Jaguars 0, 2:05 1st.

1:49 p.m. | Jaguars go for fourth down, fall short

Short-yardage plays. This Jaguars offense struggles on those, again and again.

Trevor Lawrence got sacked on the opening snap for Jacksonville, downed by defensive tackle Broderick Washington. But the second-year QB settled down after that setback, finding Zay Jones for a first down.

Then came the short-yardage troubles. Baltimore stuffed JaMycal Hasty on a third-and-1, then Doug Pederson went for fourth down and Lawrence didn't convert fourth-and-1 with a sneak. Calais Campbell made the stop. It'll be Ravens ball right around the midfield line.

1:42 p.m. | Field goal: Baltimore on board first

The Baltimore offense made that non-turnover pay off with three points.

Lamar Jackson connected with a wide-open Demarcus Robinson for a third-down completion to the Jacksonville 10. The Jacksonville pass coverage tightened up after that, forcing the Ravens to settle for a 28-yard Justin Tucker field goal.

Ravens 3, Jaguars 0, 9:23 1st.

1:31 p.m. | Rayshawn Jenkins recovers Baltimore fumble, but play overturned

What a start for the Jacksonville defense. Lamar Jackson had advanced Baltimore across midfield on the opening drive, starting with a 20-yard strike on the first play. But on a pass to tight end Mark Andrews, Jacksonville safety Rayshawn Jenkins and Foye Oluokun stripped the ball away and Jenkins fell on the fumble at the Jaguar 30.

But... officials reviewed the play and found that Jaguars linebacker Chad Muma had touched the ball while out of bounds, making the play dead. So Baltimore regains possession and keeps the drive moving.

1:25 p.m. | Jaguars, Ravens ready for kickoff

It's kickoff time after a 25-minute lightning delay. The Jaguars won the toss and deferred.

1:10 p.m. | Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has a history of being accountable for his own performances

The Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence has had good games and bad in a 3-7 season, has made magnificent plays and made inexplicable mistakes, but has established a pattern.

The good plays require someone to block and someone to catch the ball, and he’s quick to spread the credit around. The bad plays are on him.

Just announced: The Jaguars and Ravens are scheduled to kick off at 1:25 p.m. following the weather delay. All gates have reopened and fans can return to TIAA Bank Field.

1 p.m. | Weather delays Jaguars-Ravens kickoff; start time not yet confirmed

It's not yet clear when the Jaguars and Ravens will kick off, but it will not be 1 p.m. The NFL has yet to confirm a new kickoff time as dangerous weather, and a Code Blue Alert, remain for TIAA Bank Field. For the moment, CBS in Jacksonville will begin by broadcasting the Cincinnati Bengals-Tennessee Titans game.

The Jaguars issued a statement: "Due to severe weather in the area, kickoff for the Jaguars-Ravens game is delayed. Updates will be shared as soon as they are available."

The Code Blue has been re-issued for the Jaguars-Ravens game. Still awaiting confirmation on the status for the opening kickoff.

12:30 p.m. | Jacksonville mayor responds to Confederate flag plane over Jaguars stadium

Prior to Sunday's game, a plane flew above TIAA Bank Field towing a Confederate flag and the message "PUT MONUMENTS BACK," in response to the city's removal or relocation of several Confederate monuments.

Mayor Lenny Curry issued a statement over Twitter this afternoon in response. "As I’ve said before, there is no place for hate of any kind in our City. My position on monuments remains clear, I have allocated money for removal and empowered city council to take action.

12:28 p.m. | Code Blue Alert: Severe weather at TIAA Bank Field

A Code Blue Alert has been issued for TIAA Bank Field, directing fans to move to protected areas. Heavy rains are rolling into the Jacksonville area. There's no immediate indication whether this could affect the start schedule of the Jaguars-Ravens game.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office subsequently issued a Shelter In Place request via Twitter: "If you are arriving at the @Jaguars vs. @Ravens game, a shelter in place has been issued due to inclement weather. We ask that you wait in your vehicles until updated."
