Lap 200: Kyle Larson never gave anyone a chance. The driver of the 5 Cup car won the Truck Series race on Saturday — the first NASCAR race since the sanctioning body left in 1996 and planned to never return — and now he won the All-Star Race. Swept the weekend. He led most of the post-competition-caution run by four seconds over the rest of the field. That’s three All-Star wins. He’s the only driver to win three All-Star races on three different racetracks: Charlotte, Texas and now North Wilkesboro.

Lap 110: Green green green! Top 5 on that restart: Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez, Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher (up three after entering the competition caution in P7) and Chase Briscoe. But let’s be clear: This is Larson Larson Larson. Joey Logano also has a good car, but his team suffered a loose tire penalty on pit road; same for Christopher Bell. Of note: From this point forward teams can only put on one set of sticker tires (aka new tires).

Lap 101: Kyle Larson had a 13-second lead over the rest of the field when the competition caution was called. Bunch of pit stops and restart incoming.

Lap 55: Daniel Suarez led 53 laps tonight, but the story has been Kyle Larson the entire time. What a marvel he is. The 5 car took the lead on Lap 54 — after having to start at the back of the pack just 30-some laps ago for speeding on pit road after the early-race caution. He’s passing cars like they’re scant debris on his way to history. Larson was victorious earlier this weekend; he took a trip up the lift and onto Victory Lane after dominating the Truck Series race on Saturday. By Lap 69, Larson is nearly five seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Lap 21: The Top 5 running after that restart: Daniel Suarez, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Chase Briscoe, Chase Elliott.

Lap 16: First caution of the day! Lot of slipping and sliding. Erik Jones gets into Ricky Stenhouse Jr. exiting Turn 4 and that spun out the 47 car. Do you get new tires this soon? The caution-prompting contact:

8:13 p.m.: How are we feeling?! Flyover and national anthem and invocation and command all done. Now it’s time to race. If you’ve been paying attention this week, you know it’ll be slick — the track hasn’t been repaved since 1981 — and you know tire wear and pit strategy will be king. For those who want some pre-race reading: Meet the family that is operating the manual scoreboard; they’re Wilkes County natives who ran the manual scoreboard back when NASCAR came to the speedway bi-annually in the mid-90s. 6:30 p.m.: The All-Star Open wrapped up this afternoon, and that rounds out the starting lineup for today’s headline race. Josh Berry won the Open, and Ty Gibbs finished P2.
