The Cavaliers' first taste of playoff-style basketball didn't go as planned but they get a second chance.

They took away some lessons from a 115-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in the first game of the play-in tournament they hope they can use in Friday night's win-or-go-home play-in game against the Atlanta Hawks at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

After falling behind 40-20 after the first quarter against the Nets, the Cavs won the next three quarters and cut their deficit to six points on several occasions but could never quite dig themselves out of the early hole.

The youthful Cavs failed to match the intensity level of the veteran Nets out of the gate and it cost them. They know they can't let that happen again against a high-powered Hawks team, led by Trae Young, which scored 132 points in its play-in victory over the Orlando Magic.

Veterans Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love hope their playoff experience will rub off on rising star Darius Garland and rookie of the year candidate Evan Mobley against the Hawks and perhaps the Cavs will have starting center Jarrett Allen back in the lineup. Allen's status is likely to be a game-time decision.
