Live results: See 2023 election vote totals for Kentucky governor, down-ballot races

Kentucky polling places have closed.

Secretary of State Michael Adams said he predicted voter turnout to be about 42% prior to polls opening Tuesday. Updated expectations for turnout weren’t immediately available. Turnout in 2019 was about 44%.

In Fayette County, turnout was 42.77%, according to the Secretary of State’s website. No big issues were reported at polls in Lexington, the Fayette County Clerk’s Office said.

Beshear earns another term as governor

9 p.m.: The Kentucky governor’s race has been called for Democrat Andy Beshear, who defeated Republican Daniel Cameron in one of the most expensive political races in the country.

Ball wins race for state auditor

8:45 p.m.: Republican Allison Ball, who previously served as state treasurer, defeated Kim Reeder to win a term as state auditor of public accounts.

Ball said in an interview that she has been a “watchdog on taxpayer dollars.”

“People know that’s something I care deeply about,” she said.

Incumbents win Fayette school board, county clerk races

8:30 p.m.: Marilyn Clark held onto her District 1 seat on the Fayette County School Board, narrowly defeating Janet Greene, according to unofficial returns.

Susan Lamb, a Democrat, won the Fayette County clerk’s race against Dawne Perkins with 67% of the vote.

Secretary of State, Fayette County representative’s races called

8 p.m.: Michael Adams has won a second term as secretary of state, defeating Democrat Charles “Buddy” Wheatley, and Adrielle Camuel has bested Republican Kyle Whalen for Fayette County’s 93rd District seat in the House of Representatives.

In his acceptance speech, Adams thanked Kentuckians from “across the political spectrum” for placing their trust in him.

“I will not let you down,” he said.

Kentucky Attorney General’s office fields complaints

7:45 p.m.: Eighty complaints were lodged with the Kentucky Attorney General’s office on Election Day this year, including 25 in Jefferson County and 11 in Fayette County.

Complaints from Lexington included three related to voting machines, three electioneering, two procedural questions, one campaign violation, one related to an election official and one concerning a person voting more than once.

Before Election Day, 65 complaints were received, including seven from Fayette County.

Beshear wins one county by a single vote

7:30 p.m.: Several Eastern Kentucky counties have fully reported, including Powell County, where the gubernatorial vote was split 50/50, and Beshear defeated Cameron by a single vote, 1,518 to 1,517.

Other counties where all votes have been reported include Breathitt with 61% for Beshear, Elliott with 53% for Beshear, Fleming with 58% for Beshear, Lee with 54% for Cameron, Menifee with 54% for Cameron and Nicholas with 56% for Beshear.

Fayette County absentee/early voting results are in

7 p.m.: Absentee and early voting totals for Fayette County show 22,875 votes cast in Lexington before Election Day.

Results for local races showed incumbent Susan Lamb over Dawne Perkins in the race for Fayette County clerk, Marilyn Clark besting Janet Greene in the District 1 school board race and Adrielle Camuel over Kyle Whalen for state representative in the 93rd District. Kimberly Henderson Baird ran unopposed for commonwealth’s attorney.

GOP watch party gets underway

6:30 p.m.: The election night party for the majority of Kentucky’s Republican candidates for constitutional office, including gubernatorial candidate Attorney General Daniel Cameron, is just opening its doors at the Marriott in Downtown Louisville.

Attendees spotted early in the evening include Republican state senators Johnnie Turner of Harlan, Donald Douglas of Nicholasville, Michael Nemes of Shepherdsville and Gary Boswell of Owensboro.

Two other GOP candidates, commissioner of agriculture nominee Jonathan Shell and treasurer nominee Mark Metcalf, are hosting a joint event in Lancaster in Garrard County, where they’re from.

Beshear, Cameron campaigns ready for watch parties in Louisville

6 p.m.: At Paristown Hall, a new events venue located on the edge of Louisville’s progressive Highlands neighborhood, the Beshear campaign’s spirits were high. And the setup there was certainly prepped for a party.

At the sleek, Old Forester-branded space, vertical signs behind the bars read “ANDY.” National and local media littered the risers, as Beshear has drawn significant interest on the national stage with current Democratic President Joe Biden’s approval and poll numbers bottoming out as of late.

GOP nominee Daniel Cameron and some other Republican candidates were set up at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.
