Replay: Texas men's basketball falls to Miami in Elite Eight matchup in NCAA Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Miami rallied for a 88-81 win over Texas in Sunday's Midwest Region final at the T-Mobile Center.

Miami will join Connecticut, Florida Atlantic and San Diego State at next weekend's Final Four in Houston.

The Longhorns (29-9) were trying to reach the Final Four for the fourth time in school history and the first time in 20 years, but had to play without star forward Dylan Disu against a physical Miami team.

Led by 27 points from Jordan Miller, Miami shot 59.2% from the floor and made 28 of 32 free throws. Miller made all seven of his shots from the floor and all 13 of his free throws. Texas will now have to make a decision with its head coach since Rodney Terry has served as the interim head coach since replacing Chris Beard in December.

Earlier updates from the game:

:23 second half: Miami 83, Texas 79

Texas has nine turnovers this half and the Hurricanes have taken full advantage. And they are 23 of 26 from the foul line.

3:57 second half: Texas 75, Miami 75

It's a madhouse here in Kansas City. The Hurricanes took their first lead since early in the game on a 3-point play by Norchad Ormier but Texas guard Tyrese Hunter answered with a 3-pointer. A spot in the Final Four is on the line.

6:58 second half: Texas 72, Miami 68

Here come the Hurricanes. Miami has pulled the closest it has been in the second half behind Jordan Miller, who has made all seven of his shots for 19 points. Timmy Allen has 16 to lead Texas, and Marcus Carr is trying to play through what looks like a thigh injury.

11:37 second half: Texas 65, Miami 53

Texas has had an answer so far for every Miami charge. Marcus Carr (15), Timmy Allen (13) and Jabari Rice (11) all in double figures for Texas, and Brock Cunningham keeps tipping every other Miami pass. And not to focus too much on the bards, but Texas has an 18-11 rebounding edge. That's huge against Miami.

14:41 second half: Texas 59, Miami 47

Freshman Dillon MItchell usually subs out by now, but he's giving Texas lots of energy. Marcus Carr is up to 15 points after draining his third 3-pointer of the game.

17:17 second half: Texas 53, Miami 41

The Longhorns have opened this half with a flurry, including an alley-oop dunk by Dillon Mitchell and a driving layup in transition by Marcus Carr. All eight players that have taken the court for Texas have now scored.

Halftime: Texas 45, Miami 37

What a half of basketball by two teams desperate to reach the Final Four. Brock Cunningham has come off the bench for seven points and six rebounds while helping Texas grab a 14-9 edge on the glass. That's a huge stat against a Miami team that likes to crash the glass.

Cedric Golden's halftime take

"You’re witnessing the best two teams remaining in the tournament. While UConn has been the most dominant team, it’s hard to imagine any team beating Texas or Miami in the Final Four. Miami’s Nijel Pack is as good as advertised and the Horns are following a familiar script for anyone who has watched them: share the wealth. Texas has gotten it from all over, from Timmy Allen’s eight consecutive points to freshman Arterio Morris’ two triples, to Marcus Carr’s timely shooting to Jabari Rice being, well Jabari Rice. And shoutout to Brock Cunningham who is playing the game of his life on both ends. The senior is working on a double-double. This is high-quality hoops. We hope you’re enjoying it from wherever you’re watching. We certainly are."

:40.9 first half: Texas 43, Miami 35

A jumper by Brock Cunningham (7 points, 6 boards!), a stop by Texas, a transition layup by Marcus Carr, and a timeout by Miami. The Horns are closing out the half in ideal fashion.

1:18 first half: Texas 39, Miami 35

Freshman Arterio Morris gets into the scorer's book with a pair of 3-pointers, and the Longhorns are showing off all their weapons. But Miami has scorers, too. The final couple of possessions of the first half could be crucial.

Analysis:With the Final Four in sight, it's now NCAA title or bust for surging Texas men

6:08 first half: Texas 31, Miami 28

End-to-end action by both teams. Timmy Allen has 10 points for Texas on 5-of-7 shooting, and Jordan MIller has 11 for Miami. A key factor is in the paint; Brock Cunningham (6 boards) is outbattling Miami's elite rebounder Norchad Omier (4) on the glass.

11:08 first half: Texas 17, Miami 15

The Texas bench is again making an impact. Jabari Rice has eight points on 3of-3 shooting, and Brock Cunningham has five points after nailing a 3-pointer. Cunningham also has three boards, and Texas is outrebounding Miami 7-5.

14:55 first half: Miami 9, Texas 9

Miami got off to a hot start, but the Horns responded. The Hurricanes' athleticism at every spot is apparent. This is the first Texas foe I've seen in his tournament that can match Texas athlete-for-athlete. Jabari Rice came off the bench quickly and added a spark after a 7-0 Canes' lead.
