Live updates: WIAA state football championship games for Divisions 4-7 at Camp Randall Stadium

After a year hiatus due to COVID-19, the WIAA state football finals return to Camp Randall Stadium over the next two days.

Here's the schedule for Thursday, which features four games.

Division 7: Reedsville 17, Coleman 0 (PREVIEW)

Division 6: Colby 22, St. Mary's Springs 7 (PREVIEW)

Division 5: Aquinas 28, Mayville 26 (PREVIEW)

Division 4: Catholic Memorial 21, Ellsworth 12

Division 4 leaders

Here's the stats leaders in the Division 4 championship game, which Catholic Memorial won 21-12 over Ellsworth:

Rushing - Ellsworth: Ashten Quade 15-88, Jack Janke 12-53. CMH: Rory Fox 12-90, Corey Smith 11-81.

Passing: Ellsworth: Jack Janke 6-11-3-66. CMH: Rory Fox 9-15-2-80.

Receiving - Ellsworth: Ashten Quade 3-40, Max Grand 2-10. CMH: Keith Williams 3-12, Bennett McCormich 2-21.

Crusaders are champs

Catholic Memorial has won the Division 4 state title, beating Ellsworth 21-12.

CMH quarterback Rory Fox ripped off a 48-yard run to secure a first down and then the Crusaders ran out the clock.

Catholic Memorial finishes the season with a 14-0 record, while Ellsworth finishes 13-1.

It is the fifth WIAA state title for CMH.

Heck of an effort by Ellsworth, though, which trailed 21-0 after the first quarter.

That should do it (4th, 2:52)

Catholic Memorial's Charlie Jarvis intercepts an overthrow at the 5-yard line and returns it to the 24.

With Ellsworth having already used all of its timeouts, the Crusaders can melt the clock and should be able to close out this victory.

Still hope for Ellsworth (4th, 3:40)

The Ellsworth defense rises to the occasion and gets a stop, forcing a punt by Catholic Memorial.

The Panthers take over at the CMH 45 with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Panthers come up short (4th, 4:22)

On fourth-and-7, Ellsworth quarterback Jack Janke runs for 6 yards and is tackled just short of a first down. After a replay review of the spot, the call is upheld.

Catholic Memorial takes over at its own 21-yard line with 4:28 remaining in the game. A few first downs should seal the win for the Crusaders.

Headed for a good finish (4th, 5:48)

Midway through the fourth quarter, Catholic Memorial still leads Ellsworth 21-12 in the Division 4 title game.

Ellsworth has the ball in CMH territory at the 35, but is facing a fourth-and-1. CMH calls a timeout.

CMH turns it over (4th, 12:00)

Catholic Memorial was marching for a possible touchdown late in the third quarter but Ellsworth's Max Grand intercepted a pass at the 19-yard line.

CMH quarterback Rory Fox passed short to Keith Williams on a bubble screen, but the ball went through the hands of Williams and Grand caught it for the interception.

Headed to the fourth quarter.

It's close at halftime

Ellsworth has pulled within nine points of Catholic Memorial at halftime.

The Panthers' Jack Janke intercepted a pass by CMH QB Rory Fox at the 47-yard line. Ellsworth then marched 53 yards in 10 plays, with Janke scoring on a 1-yard run.

Ellsworth on the board (2nd, 8:13)

A glimmer of hope for Ellsworth, which marches 69 yards in five plays to score its first touchdown.

Ashten Quade caught a 39-yard pass from Jack Janke, then on the next play Quade ran 13 yards around right end for a touchdown.

Headed to the second (2nd, 12:00)

The first quarter ends with Catholic Memorial leading Ellsworth 21-0 in the Division 4 championship game.

CMH unofficially has 197 yards of offense while Ellsworth has 26 yards.

The quarter ends with Marvell Lee intercepting a pass for the Crusaders defense and CMH taking over at the Ellsworth 49.

On the board again (1st, 1:37)

Catholic Memorial scores for the third time in the first quarter on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Rory Fox to Obacoso Allen. The scoring play capped an 8-play, 70-yard drive in 3:11.

Fox on the run (1st, 8:09)

CMH quarterback Rory Fox runs 5 yards for a touchdown and the Crusaders have scored twice in the first four minutes.

After scoring first, CMH kicked a pooch kick on the kickoff and the Crusaders recovered at the Ellsworth 34. They scored six plays later.

CMH draws first blood (1st, 10:20)

The final game on the first day of the WIAA state football championships is underway between Catholic Memorial and Ellsworth in Division 4.

The game started with a bang for CMH, which took the opening kickoff and marched for a touchdown. Corey Smith capped the drive with a 41-yard touchdown run.

Division 5 leaders

Here's the stats leaders in the Division 5 championship game, which Aquinas won 28-26 over Mayville:

Rushing - Mayville: Blake Schraufnagel 38-205, Ty Hockers 13-55. Aquinas: David Malin 8-49.

Passing: Mayville: Adison Mittelstadt 5-7-2-47. Aquinas: Jackson Flottmeyer 16-24-1-282.

Receiving - Mayville: Bradley Bushke 3-29. Aquinas: Collin Conzemius 5-46, Jackson Christenson 4-90, Quinn Miskowski 3-99.

Aquinas wins 28-26

The Blugolds run out the clock and they are the Division 5 state champions with a 28-26 victory over Mayville.

It is the second WIAA state title for Aquinas, which won the Division 5 crown in 2007.

Mayville was seeking its second state title after winning Division 4 in 1994.

Aquinas finishes with a 14-0 record while Mayville ends 11-3.

Onside recovery (4th, 1:23)

Aquinas' Chris Wilson recovers the onside kick at the Mayville 49. The Blugolds will try to run out the final 1:41 on the clock.

Mayville has used its final timeout as Aquinas is facing a second-and-11.

Two-point game (4th, 1:41)

After recovering a fumble, Mayville goes 88 yards in 16 plays to score a touchdown. Ty Hockers scores on a 3-yard run to cap a drive that took 8:08.

However, Blake Schraufnagel is stopped on a two-point conversion run and Aquinas is clinging to a two-point lead with 1:41 remaining.

Trading turnovers (4th, 9:49)

Mayville gives up the ball when Adison Mittelstadt is intercepted by Michael Lium of Aquinas at the Mayville 41.

On the first play after the interception, Jack Gagermeier catches a pass for Aquinas and runs to the 12-yard line, but he fumbles and Mayville's Ty Hockers is there for the recovery.

Aquinas scores again (4th, 11:47)

Calvin Hargrove runs in from 1 yard out to give Aquinas a 28-20 lead. Aquinas goes for two but is denied.

One quarter to go (4th, 12:00)

After three quarters, Aquinas is clinging to a 22-20 lead over Mayville but the Blugolds are on the verge of another score.

When the fourth quarter starts, Aquinas is facing fourth-and-1 at the Mayville 2.

Aquinas has completed a 36-yard pass and had a 25-yard run on the current drive.

Back on top (3rd, 3:46)

Aquinas responds to giving up the lead with a quick scoring drive.

Jackson Flottmeyer caps the drive with a 56-yard touchdown pass to Quinn Miskowski, who gets behind Blake Schraufnagel to haul in the pass and outrun the Mayville defender to the end zone.

The Blugolds went 81 yards in six plays.

Aquinas 22, Mayville 20

Cardinals on top (3rd, 5:43)

Mayville has taken its first lead of the game after a 1-yard touchdown run by Ty Hockers with 5:43 remaining in the third quarter.

The Cardinals have scored 20 unanswered points after falling behind 16-0.

Blake Schraufnagel unofficially has 167 yards on 28 carries for Mayville.

Close at the half

After an interception by Adison Mittelstadt got the ball back for Mayville at the Aquinas 49, the Cardinals marched down the field and scored with 4 seconds remaining in the first half.

Blake Schraufnagel ran in from 1 yard out and Pablo Rodiguez-Kayser kicked the extra point to make it 16-14 at halftime.

Turnover! (2nd, 2:14)

Shortly after a Mayville touchdown, the Cardinals get the ball back on an interception by Adison Mittelstadt at the Aquinas 49. Mittelstadt made a nice break on the ball on a pass toward the left siand lunged in front of the receiver for the pick.

Cardinals on the board (2nd, 4:02)

We've got a ballgame as Mayville gets on the scoreboard with a 21-yard touchdown run by Blake Schraufnagel with 4:02 remaining in the second quarter.

The Cardinals extended the drive by going for it on fourth-and-1 at their own 29, with Schraufnagel getting two yards to move the chains.

One more for Aquinas (2nd, 11:52)

Joe Penchi runs in from 5 yards out for the second Aquinas touchdown. The Blugolds got into scoring position on a 14-yard pass from Jackson Flottmeyer to Jackson Christenson to the Mayville 5.

Flottmeyer passed to Quinn Miskowski for the two-point conversion with 11:52 remaining in the first half.

Blugolds lead after one (2nd, 12:00)

Aquinas takes an 8-0 lead into the second quarter. The Blugolds have the ball and are facing a fourth-and-5 at the Mayville 19. They were set up with good field position after an interception by Calvin Hargrove.

Aquinas takes early lead (1st, 2:23)

Aquinas scored first against Mayville in the first quarter of the Division 5 title game.

The Blugolds got on the scoreboard on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Flottmeyer to Quinn Miskowski with 8:42 remaining in the first quarter.

D6 stats leaders

Here's a few stats leaders in Colby's 22-7 victory over St. Mary's Springs in the Division 6 championship game:

Rushing - Springs: Isaac Hyland 15-91, Levi Huempfner 9-83. Colby: Brent Jeske 25-130, Caden Healy 15-75.

Passing - Springs: Cullen King 5-16-0-39. Colby: Brent Jeske 3-9-0-40.

Receiving - Springs: James Bohn 3-37. Colby: Caden Healy 3-40.

Colby is No. 1

It's over. The Colby Hornets have won the Division 6 state championship with a 22-7 victory over St. Mary's Springs.

It is the fourth state football title for Colby, which also won in 1998, 2008 and 2011.

Safety first (4th, 4:27)

Colby picks up two points and may have sealed the victory as Andrew Jeske sacks Springs quarterback Cullen King in the end zone, giving the Hornets a 15-point lead with 4:27 remaining.

Colby will get the ball after the free kick and will start at its own 31.

The Hornets are just over four minutes away from their fourth state championship.

That might do it (4th, 6:28)

Colby just came up with a fourth-down stop and will take over deep in Springs territory.

On fourth-and-5 at their own 17, the Ledgers sent their punt team onto the field. Then after a timeout, the Springs offense went back on the field. Springs quarterback Cullen King attempted a deep pass to Lucas Rameker that fell incomplete, giving Colby the ball.

Springs still has a chance (4th, 6:53)

Special teams has been a problem for Springs all game, but the Ledgers just came up with a big field goal block.

Colby kicker Tucker Brost was attempting a 23-yard field goal that would have given Colby a 16-point lead, but it was blocked by the Ledgers' Noah Mueller and Springs takes over at its own 12-yard line.

Wild start to fourth quarter (4th, 11:14)

After a scoreless third quarter, Colby is 12 minutes away from winning the Division 6 state title.

The fourth quarter didn't get off to a good start for the Ledgers. After coming up short on a third-down run, Springs was forced to punt. The snap to punter Nate Mueller was wide of the mark and Mueller had to move to his right to corral it. He tried to get off the kick, but the ball slid off his right foot for a short kick.

Colby took possession at the Springs 26-yard line.

Second half underway (3rd, 9:33)

The second half of the Division 6 title game is underway and Springs is on the move. The Ledgers started the drive at their own 23 but have picked up a couple first downs and are in Colby territory at the 46.

Hornets lead at halftime (3rd, 15:00)

Colby, seeking its first state title since 2011 when it won the Division 5 championship, leads St. Mary's Springs 20-7 at halftime in the Division 6 championship game.

The Hornets led 20-0 before Springs finally got on the board.

Springs will receive the kickoff to start the second half.

Here come the Ledgers (2nd, 3:42)

Levi Huempfner gets the Ledgers on the board with a 52-yard touchdown run with 3:42 remaining in the second quarter.

Huempfner takes a pitch from quarterback Cullen King, breaks three tackles within a few yards of the line of scrimmage and races down the right sideline for the touchdown.

It is the 16th rushing TD of the season for Huempfner.

Colby 20, St. Mary's Springs 7

Wow! Just wow! (2nd, 10:16)

Just when it looks like the Ledgers have some momentum after a 34-yard run by Isaac Hyland, the Hornets sting Springs with a defensive touchdown.

Springs quarterback Cullen King fumbles in the backfield and Brent Jeske picks up the ball, bobbles briefly and then races 63 yards for a touchdown to give Colby a 20-0 lead after the extra point was blocked.

Another slow start for Springs, which trailed Darlington 24-0 in the state semifinal game in DeForest.

End of the quarter (2nd, 12:00)

The first quarter ended with Colby kicker Tucker Brost missing a 38-yard field goal wide left, but it was a great first quarter for the Hornets to dominated the first 12 minutes of action.

Colby with 103 yards of total offense in the first quarter, Springs with just 31 yards.

Colby scores again (1st, 5:04)

Brent Jeske scores his second touchdown of the game, running up the middle from 1 yard out to give the Hornets a 14-0 lead.

Jeske's screen pass to Caden Healy that went for 26 yards was the big play on the drive. Mateo Lopez set up the Hornets in good field position with a punt return into Ledgers territory.

Schrauth on the field

St. Mary's Springs standout lineman Billy Schrauth, who has been battling an arch injury and has been playing with a noticeable limp, was on the field at defensive tackle for Springs' first series and is also lined up at left guard on the Ledgers' first offensive possession.

Coming into the game, Springs coach Bob Hyland said he was confident Schrauth would play but wasn't sure how long he would be able to go.

Colby strikes first (1st, 10:02)

After a long kickoff return by Caden Healy set up Colby at the Springs 35, the Hornets needed only five plays to score the game's first touchdown.

Colby quarterback Brent Jeske took the snap and ran around right end for a 4-yard TD run.

Division 6 game underway

The Division 6 championship game between St. Mary's Springs and Colby is underway. Colby won the toss and elected to receive the kickoff.

Springs is wearing white jerseys with blue pants. Colby is in green jerseys with gold pants.

Colby is in the title game for the sixth time overall and the first time since 2011. Springs is making a WIAA-leading 13th championship game appearance overall.

Wrapping up the D7 game

Here's some final stats from the Division 7 championship game:

Rushing: Reedsville - Brennen Dvorachek 30-128, Westen Liebzeit 11-63, Cole Ebert 12-55. Coleman: Will Bieber 12-48, Peter Kuchta 7-35.

Passing: Reedsville: None. Coleman: Noah Nosgovitz 3-8-1-49.

Receiving: Reedsville: None. Coleman: Will Bieber 1-34, Tieg Sadowski 1-18, Peter Kuchta 1-0.

Reedsville wins D7 title

Reedsville has defeated Coleman 17-0 to win the Division 7 state title, its first state football championship.

Reedsville finishes the season 13-1, while Coleman suffers its first loss and finishes 13-1.

Another stop for Reedsville (4th, 9:07)

Coleman is running out of time. The Cougars just turned the ball over on downs, giving Reedsville the ball at its own 36 with 9:07 remaining.

Coleman had a third-and-1 but lost 4 yards on a pass and then threw incomplete on fourth down to end the drive.

Panthers score again (4th, 11:20)

Westen Liebzeit boots a 23-yard field goal for Reedsville, the first points of the second half, to give the Panthers a 17-0 lead with 11:20 remaining in the game.

Reedsville had a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line before Coleman's defense stiffened and forced the field goal attempt.

Headed to the fourth (4th, 15:00)

No scoring in the third quarter, but Reedsville is deep in Coleman territory and threatening to put the game out of reach.

Reedsville started this drive at its own 34 after stopping Coleman on fourth down.

Panthers get a stop (3rd, 5:30)

After recovering a fumble, Coleman marches to the Reedsville 34 before the drive stalls. On back-to-back passes, Cougars quarterback Noah Nosgovitz just barely overthrows an open receiver. On fourth-and-11, he misses Peter Kuchta who was open down the right sideline.

Panthers turn it over (3rd, 8:36)

Reedsville marches into Coleman territory to open the third quarter, but Westen Liebzeit fumbles after a hit by Coleman's Braxton Darga and Trent Mongin recovers for the Cougars at the 42-yard line.

Second half underway

The second half of the Division 7 championship game is underway with Reedsville leading 14-0. The Panthers get the ball first and Westen Liebzeit returns the second-half kickoff 10 yards to the 32-yard line.

Both teams are seeking their first state football championship.

Headed to halftime

Reedsville's Westen Liebzeit attempted a 30-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, but it was blocked by Coleman's Sawyer Seefeldt and recovered by the Cougars to end the first half.

Reedsville's Camden Dvorachek was shaken up on the final play of the half after taking a vicious blindside block, so we'll see if he comes back out for the second half. Dvorachek blocked a punt in the first quarter to set up the first TD for the Panthers.

Westen Liebzeit boots a 30-yard

Liebzeit does it again (2nd, 4:00)

With Coleman threatening to score its first touchdown, Reedsville's Westen Liebzeit comes up with another huge play on defense. He steps in front of a pass by Noah Nosgovitz intended for Tieg Sadowski and intercepts it in the end zone. Liebzeit returns the INT to the Reedsville 47-yard line.

Panthers score again (2nd, 7:34)

Reedsville quarterback Brennen Dvorachek runs up the middle for 2 yards for a touchdown and Westen Liebzeit adds the extra point to give the Panthers a 14-point lead.

Reedsville's short scoring drive was set up by a fumble recovery by Liebzeit, who then ran 17 yards down to the 2 to set up the touchdown.

Turnover!

Coleman's Will Bieber fumbles and Westen Liebzeit recovers for Reedsville. The Panthers take over with first-and-10 at the Coleman 31 less than 2 minutes into the second quarter.

Headed to the second quarter at Camp Randall Stadium with Reedsville leading Coleman 7-0. Reedsville has the ball and is on the move again after starting the drive at its own 3-yard line. The Panthers are facing third-and-11 at their own 29.

Reedsville with 35 total yards in the first quarter and Coleman with 43 yards. Coleman had the ball for 8 minutes.

Cougars nearly respond (1st/3:56)

After Reedsville scores first, Coleman marches deep into Reedsville territory before the drive stalls. On fourth-and-goal from the 3, the Cougars go for it but Noah Nosgovitz's pass intended for Tieg Sadowski in the right flat bounces off Sadowski's fingertips in the and Reedsvile takes over.

Reedsville strikes first

Our first big plays come from the Panthers as Reedsville's Ryan Taddy comes up with a sack on third down for an 8-yard loss. Coleman is forced to punt and Reedsville's Camden Dvorachek blocks the punt. Coleman recovers, but can't advance for a first down and Reedsville takes over at the Coleman 9-yard line.

On the first play after the blocked punt, Reedsville's Westen Liebzeit runs 9 yards for a touchdown. He also kicks the extra point to give the Panthers the early lead.

A day of firsts

Coleman and Reedsville are both making their first appearance in a state title game. Coleman advanced with a 28-22 semifinal victory over Regis and Reedsville advanced with a 47-8 thrashing of Cashton.

We're almost underway

We're about 10 minutes from the start of the WIAA Division 7 championship game. Reedsville has won the toss but defers. Coleman will receive the ball first. Reedsville is in white jerseys today while Coleman is decked out in green jerseys with black pants.
