Updates: Watch ULA launch an Atlas V rocket and Space Force mission from Cape Canaveral

Update: Liftoff of Atlas V and the STP-3 mission at 5:19 a.m. ET! After a few delays during the window due to upper-level winds, Atlas V successfully launched and kicked off a more than seven-hour mission to deliver several payloads to geosynchronous orbit some 22,200 miles above Earth.

Follow live as United Launch Alliance targets 5:19 a.m. ET Tuesday, Dec. 8, for the launch of an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

Teams have a one-hour window at Launch Complex 41 to launch the rocket and its Space Force mission, which includes several payloads and is known as Space Test Program-3 or STP-3. After liftoff, the rocket's second stage will take the payloads on an extended seven-hour journey to geosynchronous orbit some 22,200 miles above Earth.

This particular configuration of Atlas V includes five solid rocket boosters, making it the most powerful variant.
