Recap: Tuesday storm system sweeps across Georgia, leaving downed trees and some flooding

A strong storm system will move across Georgia Tuesday, bringing heavy rains and potentially damaging winds.

According to the NWS, damaging winds, hail and tornado activity are possible throughout the day. More than 100 school systems across the state have modified schedules on Tuesday, with a majority closing or going to virtual learning.

Tornado watch in effect for Georgia coast until 6 p.m.

As of 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, the severe weather that battered parts of the Florida Panhandle and Georgia had mostly moved into the Carolinas and into Central Florida. A tornado watch remains in effect for much of coastal and eastern Georgia until 6 p.m.

Tornado warning in Camden and Glynn counties

Parts of Camden and Glynn counties along the coast of Georgia were issued a tornado warning around 2:45 p.m. This warning expires at 3:15 p.m.

Parts of Liberty, Long counties under tornado warning | 2:30 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued for Hinesville, Walthourville and Ludowici around 2:30 p.m. This warning expires at 3 p.m.

Tornado warnings continue across southeast Georgia | 1:45 p.m.

The following areas were issued a tornado warning:

  • Sylvania, Hiltonia and Rocky Ford in Screven County (expires at 2:30)

  • Glennville and Gum Branch in Tattnall and Liberty counties (expires at 2:15)

  • Moniac in Charlton County (expires at 2:15 p.m.)

  • Odum, Doctortown and Mershon (expires at 2:15 p.m.)

  • Hagan, Bellville and Mendes (expires at 2 p.m.)

  • Surrency (expires at 2 p.m.)

Tornado warning issued for additional southeast Georgia areas | 1:20 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued for the area that includes Reidsville, Hagan and Bellville until 2 p.m.

Tornado warnings issued for southeast Georgia counties | 1 p.m.

Parts of Bacon, Coffee, Ware and Jeff Davis counties were issued a tornado warning at 1 p.m.

A tornado warning, which expires at 10:45 a.m., was issued in the are of Bainbridge.

Tornado warning for Atlanta airport area | 8:15 a.m.

A tornado warning has been issued for the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport area until 8:45 a.m.

Weather radar for southwest Georgia

Tornado warning for Donalsonville, Colquitt and Iron City

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Donalsonville, Colquitt and Iron City until 8:45 a.m.

Tornadoes in northern Florida

At least two tornadoes have been reported in the Florida Panhandle Tuesday morning: one near De Funiak Springs and another near Panama City, according to the National Weather Service.

Southwest Georgia under tornado watch | 7:45 a.m.

The southwestern part of the state is under a tornado watch until 2 p.m. This area includes Americus, Albany, Waycross, Valdosta and Bainbridge.
