- Oops!Something went wrong.Please try again later.
Ohio State football will have a good idea what the 2022 roster will look like after Wednesday as the Buckeyes expect to sign 19 players (Update: Make that 18 after Terrance Brooks flipped his commitment to Texas.) on the first National Signing Day for football players in the Class of 2022.
The Buckeyes had the No. 2 class in 2021 and the No. 5 class in 2020, according to 247 Sports composite rankings, as third-year coach Ryan Day has continued to find success in recruiting since taking over for Urban Meyer.
Ohio State entered Wednesday with the fourth-best class in the country, headlined by a pair of 5-star, in-state defensive players and four 4-star wide receivers signing on to the program.
On Tuesday, Ohio State landed 4-star defensive lineman Caden Curry from the state of Indiana to the class, the 88th-ranked player at 247 Sports in the class.
Will there be more additions outside of the players who have already committed to Ohio State?

When is the next National Signing Day?
In 2017, the NCAA brought back the early signing day for football. It went into effect in 2018. But before that, the first Wednesday of February was National Signing Day for football recruits.
The next signing will be Feb. 2, 2022.
However, recruits don’t have to sign that day. Last year, for example, Ohio State signed J.T. Tuimoloau in the summer.
Ohio State's Ryan Day discusses the 2022 recruiting class
Ohio State coach Ryan Day told reporters at an afternoon press conference that he is excited about the players OSU is bringing in this year. And that's before some more additions Day hopes to make.
Ryan Day said he expects Ohio State will sign “north of 20” commits by the end of the second signing period in February.

Day on Sonny Styles reclassifying: "I was very, very excited when Sonny (committed and then reclassified from 2023). "He's a very serious young man who has serious potential." Said reclassifying was Styles' idea.

Who are the highest-rated prospects from Ohio in the modern-recruiting era?
Here are the five highest-rated recruits since the early 2000s to come from Ohio:
Ted Ginn, Jr., Cleveland Glenville (2004), signed with Ohio State
Jack Sawyer, Pickerington North (2021), signed with Ohio State
Prescott Burgess, Warren G Harding (2003), signed with Michigan
Beanie Wells, Akron Garfield (2006), signed with Ohio State
Jordan Hicks, Lakota West *2010), sign with Texas
Gabe Powers now to sign Friday
Instead of turning in a letter of intent today, Marysville linebacker and Ohio State commit Gabe Powers now intends to sign during a ceremony at his high school on Friday.
Powers was named the 2021 Gatorade Ohio player of the year after making 90 tackles, including 17 for loss, six sacks and forcing four fumbles this past season.
Where does OSU's class rank?
Despite losing a commitment from four-star cornerback Terrance Brooks on Wednesday morning, the Buckeyes have a top-five class.
With 17 of 18 commits signed, the class remains ranked No. 4 in the nation in 247Sports' composite rankings, trailing only a trio of SEC powerhouses in Georgia, Texass A&M and Alabama.
Ohio State had a top-five class following each of Day's first two seasons.
Dallan Hayden explains his decision to go to OSU: 'It fits me.'
Running back Dallan Hayden accepted an invitation from The Commercial Appeal to write about why he's choosing to attend Ohio State. Among the reasons he cited: the success of previous OSU running backs, the desire to establish his own legacy as opposed to living in the shadow of his father who played at the University of Tennessee from 1991-94, and academics.
Ohio State looking at possibilities in transfer portal
Today isn't just about making over the roster by adding high school players who are sending in their letters of intent. Ohio State is also considering options when it comes to the NCAA transfer portal. For Buckeyes director of player personnel Mark Pantoni, the work never stops.

Buckeyes continue to dominate Ohio in-state recruiting
With C.J. Hicks and Sonny Styles joining the Buckeyes, Ohio State has now signed the highest-rated recruit from Ohio in four straight classes.
The last top-rated recruit, according to 247 Sports composite rankings, to sign with another program was Jackson Carman of Fairfield High School in 2018, who chose Clemson. Carman was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Buckeyes were likely to continue that streak in 2023 but after Styles reclassified, Mentor defensive lineman Brenan Vernon became the state's top 2023 recruit. He is committed to Notre Dame.

Styles is 6-4, 215 pounds and played for Pickerington Central.
