Q: What is happening in the former Rite-Aid building at the corner of McPherson Church and Morgantown Rd? They have been working on it steadily for about 6 months. I see loads of trucks there everyday. Any ideas??? — L.L.

A: The former Rite-Aid on Morganton Road is now a Pinehurst Surgical Clinic, and it is open.

According to its website, Pinehurst Surgical Clinic has 7 other locations in surrounding counties but this is its only location in Cumberland County.

The clinic's FirstHealth Convenient Care is open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and its Medical and Surgical Specialties clinic is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday.

Q: Will E.E. Smith get a new school? No mention recently in the news

A: There is still a possibility that there might be a new E.E. Smith High School but they are still seeking funding, according to Cumberland County School spokesperson Lindsay Whitley. The potential for a new school has been discussed at several Cumberland County Board of Education meetings. The Fayetteville Observer wrote about the school board seeking a $50 million grant for the new E.E. Smith High School in March and not much has changed since then.

According to school officials, the grant wouldn't pay for the entire project, which is estimated to cost about $95 million.
