Liverpool Cleans Up After Night of Premier League Celebrations

City authorities in Liverpool were joined by locals on Saturday morning, June 27, in an effort to clean up rubbish strewn around parts of the waterfront after Liverpool FC secured the Premier League title.

Liverpool ended a 30-year wait to become English champions when Chelsea beat second-place Manchester City, making it mathematically impossible for Liverpool to be caught.

At the city’s iconic Royal Liver Building, people lit flares, let off fireworks, and set fires, videos shared to Snapchat showed. The Liverpool Echo reported that a firework were aimed at the Royal Liver Building, sparking a fire on a balcony.

“Thank you to these Scousers who were out this morning helping to clean up after last night’s disgraceful scenes,” the City Council wrote on Twitter. “You’ll be happy to know that the Pier Head is looking beautiful again after all the rubbish has been removed.” Credit: Liverpool City Council via Storyful
