Livestream: Press Secretary McEnany Holds Thursday Briefing

WASHINGTON, DC — White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was scheduled to hold a news conference Thursday at the White House. The briefing was slated to start at 1 p.m. ET.

At a briefing earlier this week, McEnany focused on the four executive orders signed by President Donald Trump over the weekend, including one that would provide lower weekly unemployment benefits for those out of a job due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But there is "no timetable" for when eligible Americans will begin to see the $400 payments, she said. If there is a delay, McEnany said, it would be the fault of Democratic lawmakers, and she specifically mentioned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The White House, she said, is working "around the clock" to ensure the payments begin as quickly as possible.

McEnany's briefing also follows a Wednesday discussion hosted by Trump on the return to school nationwide. The discussion was co-hosted by Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

A number of other speakers, some parents and a few school officials also made statements in favor of sending kids back to school.

For months, Trump has touted the importance of sending children back to in-person school this fall despite coronavirus case numbers continuing to rise across much of the United States. In July, he launched an all-out effort to get kids back into the classroom.

"We want to reopen the schools. Everybody wants it. The moms want it, the dads want it, the kids want it. It's time to do it," he said July 7. "We're very much going to put pressure on governors and everybody else to open the schools."
