Ricky Martin – best known for his 1999 hit Livin' La Vida Loca – has responded to accusations that he had sexual relations with his nephew.

To recap, earlier this month the singer was served with a restraining order that cited domestic abuse – although his representatives shut the allegation down, saying "[this is] completely false and fabricated."

When news of the restraining order first broke, it wasn't clear who had petitioned it, but a report from El Vocero alleged it had come from someone Martin had been involved with. "The parties were related for seven months. They separated two months ago, but the petitioner does not accept the separation," the report said.

"[Ricky] calls him frequently. In addition, the petitioner has seen him hanging around his residence on at least three occasions," the report added of the restraining order. "The petitioner fears for his safety."

Since the restraining order was issued, Martin's brother took to Facebook (via TMZ) to claim the petitioner is the singer's nephew – although Martin has strongly denied the accusations made against him.

"Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew," the 50-year-old's lawyer, Martin Singer, told Variety.

Singer went on: "The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts."

Later this week, Martin will appear in court (per TMZ) where a judge will decide whether the restraining order should remain in place or be terminated. He is currently facing a number of other legal issues as his former manager, Rebecca Drucke, is suing him for $3 million over claims of unpaid commissions – he has not publicly responded to Drucke's allegation.

Martin has been married to artist Jwan Yosef since 2017, although he did not publicly reveal he was gay until 2010. "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am," he said in a statement on his website at the time. "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed."
