PROVIDENCE – Former Republican U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, who has made a series of media appearances warning against another Trump presidency, will bring her message to Brown University.

On Feb. 13, Cheney will deliver the Stephen A. Ogden Jr. ’60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs, following in the footsteps of various politicians and heads of state, including former British prime ministers, the Dalai Lama and U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Rhode Island's former governor.

Cheney, who represented Wyoming from 2017 to 2023, will give a talk called "Defending Democracy," which Brown said will cover "how she arrived at her personal convictions, her time in Congress and the future of politics in America."

"As the country continues to grapple with questions about democracy, particularly in a major election year, we'll hear from a wide range of leaders over the course of the year, and we've heard already that Brown and local community members are interested in Liz Cheney's insights," said university spokeswoman Amanda McGregor.

Though tickets are free, they've already all been scooped up. Those looking for a seat are now on a waitlist.

Talk follows media tour for Cheney's new memoir

The visit comes on the heels of Cheney's Tuesday talk with historian Jon Meacham at Vanderbilt University. Speaking to a packed room, Cheney implored Tennessee Republicans to stand against former President Donald Trump in his bid for another term, calling it "a really clear choice."

"You cannot be both for Donald Trump and for the Constitution," she said.

Aside from being an ardent Trump critic, Cheney is known for having served as vice chair of the House's Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In December, Cheney's memoir, "Oath and Honor," was released, detailing the insurrection and its aftermath. A whirlwind media tour followed, placing Cheney all over broadcast news, including NPR, MSNBC, ABC and CBS.

In addition to her other college campus visits, Cheney is scheduled to speak at Drake University in Iowa in March.

With her days as a lawmaker behind her, Cheney now teaches at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.
