You’ll find Charlotte’s newest breakfast spot in an unlikely SouthPark location

If you’re a fan of the ice cream Golden Cow Creamery, then you’ll want to mark your calendar to sample its next creation: Golden Waffles.

“We created Golden Waffles to add a fun breakfast component to Golden Cow. We have a beautiful location in SouthPark, but it sits empty for half the day. Now it can be as fun in the morning as it is in the evenings,” said Alex Hannah, co-owner of Golden Cow Creamery.

Golden Cow Creamery partnered with two other Charlotte companies, Cast Iron Waffles and Enderly Coffee Co. to produce the new breakfast offering. Cast Iron Waffles has been serving waffles in the Queen City for 12 years, and will prepare the dough the creamery will use for its sweet waffles.

“One of our favorite parts of what we get to do as a local, small business is to work with other local, small businesses. The last few months have showed us all how fragile running a business can be, so we are thrilled to partner up on this concept and invite Charlotte to show up,” said Tony Santoro, co-founder of Enderly Coffee.

Hannah said that he and his wife, Liz Hannah, co-owner of Golden Cow Creamery, had a chance encounter with the owners of Cast Iron Waffles on the South End Rail Trail while taking pictures of ice cream for the creamery two years ago. They discussed collaborating and have been thinking about it ever since.

“This winter, we realized how nice our shop is in the morning when it’s not so hot and the shopping center is quiet. It all clicked,” Hannah said. “We think it is the perfect pairing. Waffles and ice cream are complimentary; both go great with toppings and are a fun treat to share with friends.”

The shop will offer two kinds of waffles: a sweet Belgian-Liege-style and a high-protein 100% whole grain option. The protein waffle will have 14 grams of protein per serving, so it acts as more of a meal than a treat. There will also be plenty of toppings (categories include gooey, fruity, fun and seasonal) to personalize your creation. Update: Yes, you can get ice cream on your waffle.

“Cast Iron Waffles is excited about our partnership with Golden Cow Creamery to bring authentic Belgian Liege waffles back to the SouthPark area,” said Chris Duggan, owner of Cast Iron Waffles.

To jump start mornings, the creamery will also serve Enderly Coffee. All offerings are available at the SouthPark location (720 Governor Morrison St.) from 8 a.m.-noon, Tuesday-Sunday. You can begin ordering Golden Waffles on Tuesday, July 14.
