Rapper LL Cool J will be joined by the Roots, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Z-Trip and a revolving array of classic hip-hop stars for a North American tour that will include an Aug. 18 stop at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.
Common, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Ice T and MC Lyte will also appear on the Detroit bill. (Rakim, originally announced for the Detroit show, is no longer part of the lineup.) A media release describes the show as “a nonstop musical mash up with artist performances interwoven within one continuous musical set backed by the Roots.” It follows a similar 50th anniversary musical salute at the Grammy Awards in February.
The F.O.R.C.E. Live tour, announced Tuesday, comes as the hip-hop world celebrates the genre’s 50th anniversary this year. It’s also LL Cool J’s first arena headlining outing in three decades.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, with several presale options from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday. Verizon customers and Citi cardholders will have access to presale tickets from noon today through 10 p.m. Thursday.
Other performers enlisted for select F.O.R.C.E live dates include Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Method Man & Redman, Big Boi, Juvenile, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, De La Soul, Goodie Mob, Jadakiss and Rick Ross.
