From Oprah Magazine

  • Production for season five of Queer Eye began on June 24 in Philadelphia.

  • The fifth season will premiere in 2020, though Netflix is expected to release a new special before then.

Queer Eye’s Fab Five have experienced enormous levels of success in recent years.

After taking home not one, not two, but three Emmys at the 2018 awards show, Jonathan Van Ness, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, and Tan France, filled our living rooms with joy yet again when season three of the beloved Netflix reboot premiered in March. Just like season one—which, by the way, only premiered less than two years ago—the third round made us laugh, cry, hug our friends, then call our moms.

But Netflix surprised us all when, just five months later, a fourth season was quickly released on July 19. As expected, fans once again fell in love with the Fab Five—and Queer Eye obsessives will be pleased to know that they’ll be back for a fifth season. Here's all the details we could find about Queer Eye season 5.

When does season 5 of Queer Eye premiere?

We hate to break it to you, but there’s going to be a bit of a Queer Eye drought now that season four is out. The fifth season began production on June 24, and it’s slated for a 2020 release. While that sounds like it’s far away, the new year will arrive in no time—and considering season three premiered in March, something tells us the wait won’t be too long.

Is there a season five trailer?

They’re still filming it! So definitely no yet. But as soon as it lands in our inbox, you will be informed.

While the first few seasons were filmed in Atlanta and Kansas City, the Fab Five traveled to the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, to make season 5 happen. Before the official announcement was made, eagle-eyed fans guessed Philadelphia, thanks to a series of promotional flyers that basically gave it away. So if you’re trying to figure out how to get someone on the show, check this out—there might still be time to nominate them and get them to Philadelphia.

Will each members of the Fab Five return?

Yes! We know this because the mighty crew has banded together during production this summer. Plus, they’ve spoken out multiple times about just how close they’ve gotten. During an exclusive interview with OprahMag.com earlier this year, Porowski said, “We’ve all really relaxed into our roles, and we’ve let ourselves go in a really lovely way.”

Berk, who often is perceived as the one who does the most work, has also emphasized how they have to stick together to bring us the Queer Eye we know and love. “Our show wouldn’t be what it was without every single category and genre. Without Karamo figuring out what’s wrong on the inside, Antoni teaching them a good life lesson with cooking, Tan and Jonathan teaching them to love themselves again and that the way they are is perfect, and me making sure they don’t fall back into a rut at home,” he told OprahMag.com.

Oh, and if you’re wondering how production is going, all five have been busy trolling fans by posting kissy-kissy Instagram photos that make us believe they’re dating each other. We’re not fooled, guys.

Will anything change for season five?

Probably. In addition to the location, the Fab Five and producers have made tiny tweaks to make the show better each time around. Following the first two seasons, the Fab Five faced criticism for not being inclusive of the entire LGBTQ community, something they became keenly aware of later on. Van Ness told OprahMag.com, “We hear you. There are beautiful, other non-binary artists and lesbians and different body types that would certainly have a seat at our table, and I would love to have them on the show. We’re capable of listening to constructive criticism, but we’re doing the best we can.”

Is there any other way to get some Queer Eye before 2020?

We think so! In case you missed it, Netflix previously confirmed that they're going to release a new special titled Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! at some point in 2019. According to the streaming service, the Fab Five will “bring their message of self-care and compassion to four Japanese men and women while exploring the country’s rich culture and cuisine.”
