LMS Cardinal basketball finishes 2-2 versus Parma Western

COLDWATER — The Coldwater Legg Middle School Cardinal boys basketball teams continued their Interstate 8 conference schedule Wednesday night, facing off with Parma Western.

In the eighth grade “A” game the LMS Cardinals showed great focus and heart, bouncing back from their first loss of the season with a nail biter versus Parma, winning 45-41.

Gavin Taylor led the way for Coldwater with 11 points while Austin Downs added nine points. Also chipping in for the Cardinals was Owen Tappenden with eight points, Bennett McDonald with six points, Sebastian Ocampo with five points, Kayden Roby with three points, Jackson Reilly with one point, and Pablo Ocampo with one point.

With the victory the eighth grade “A” team improves to 10-1 on the season.

In the eighth grade “B” game the Cardinals had a tough time scoring against a very good Parma Western team, falling by the score of 46-2.

Jake Fosdick had the lone bucket for Coldwater while Michael Wright added nine rebounds.

In the seventh grade “A” contest the LMS Cardinals defeated Parma Western by the score of 39-28.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Draycen Foster with 15 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.

Dayton Ennis also scored in double figures with 11 points to go with five assists.

Also adding to the Cardinal victory was Finn Hanson with nine rebounds; Manny Hernandez with seven rebounds and six steals; and Landon Dirschell with six steals and five assists.

With the victory the seventh grade “A” team improvs to 10-1 overall on the season. Their next game will be their final game of the season and will be Monday at home versus Lumen Christi who has handed them their only loss thus far in 2021.

In the seventh grade “B” game the Cardinals fell to Parma Western by the score of 31-13.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Austin Stepp with four points; Drew VanDerPuyl with four points; Evan Depew with one point and five rebounds; and Mason Sabaitis with five rebounds.

With the loss the seventh grade “B” team falls to 2-9 on the season.

The LMS Cardinals will all finish out their season on Monday when they host the Lumen Christi Titans for one final Interstate 8 battle.
