A new lobster shack on Bowen's Wharf in Newport has an unusual story

Luke's Lobster has opened at 36 Bowen's Wharf in Newport. They have a walk-up window serving lobster rolls, crab and shrimp rolls and clam chowder.

It's a slightly unusual restaurant story for Rhode Island.

Luke’s Lobster is a family-owned Maine seafood business, founded by third-generation lobsterman Luke Holden. Luke’s began as a tiny lobster roll shack in New York City. That's different, right? Holden opened it in 2009. With a partner, Ben Conniff, they built 22 shacks.

In 2013, they opened their own seafood purchasing and production business in Saco, Maine. Five years later they expanded into selling flash-frozen lobster meat, tails, and seafood meals in grocery stores around the country. They launched an online market in 2020 for direct delivery to home. Luke’s now has shack locations in 10 U.S. states, Japan and Singapore.

The Newport location will remain open through October. Daily hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Learn more at lukeslobster.com or by calling (401) 236-1206.
