Local artists to be featured in new Culture & Cocktails program

OGUNQUIT — The list of local artists to appear at future installments of the Anchorage by the Sea’s new monthly artist program “Culture & Cocktails” is growing—with proceeds to benefit the Ogunquit Art Association.

Maine abstract painter Neill Ewing-Wegman (http://www.neillewingwegmann.com/) kicked off the inaugural series in July with his work “In Our Dreams.” He will be featured in a closing reception Saturday, August 27 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lightship Building on Shore Road.

Up next will be Peter Dugovic (http://www.dugovic.com/)—a painter, printmaker, sculptor and coppersmith—who will bring his eclectic style to the Lightship Function Room Saturday, Sept 10. A popular presenter, Dugovic has been part of solo and group exhibitions in New York City, Long Island, Kennebunk and Amesbury, MA— as well as inclusion in private collections throughout the state—and from New York and California to Hong Kong—with his gritty series that range from urban scenes to Pop Victorian works.

Amy Kelly, a fixture within the community at her TailSpinStudio in Perkin’s Cove (https://talespinstudio.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral), confirmed she will join the event as a presenter Saturday, December 10. A former sternperson on Captain Bo Kinsman’s boat the “Bittersweet,” this well-known artist has taken her love of the sea and coupled it with her firsthand experience on the Atlantic to create art from photography, spawned from lobstering.

Claire Bigbee, (https://www.clairebigbee.com/home) an artist and graphic designer that draws her inspiration from southern Maine’s varied landscapes and changing seasons, will also be featured in the coming months. Her work in Ogunquit’s Van Ward Gallery encompasses coastal views, salt marsh settings and pastoral fields.

Through the program, artists will be on hand one Saturday of each month from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss their work with the public, accompanied by area musicians and specialty cocktails in a relaxed setting. Each artist’s work will remain on display in the Lightship Function Room by appointment. There is no charge for the event. Cocktails will be available for sale and proceeds will benefit the Ogunquit Art Association. Foot traffic is welcomed. Visitors that are not guests of the hotel should park in public parking lots or contact Jordan for parking suggestions and assistance.

Future artists will include astrophotography by Alan Jordan Saturday, October 1; http://alanjordan.org/astrophotography/index.html;Textile Arts (quilting and knitting from locally sourced sheep!) with Elizabeth and Allison Thompson (Sunshine Quilts/Tangled up in Ewes) on Saturday, November 12 https://sunshinequiltsbyel.wixsite.com/my-site. Thompson’s event will benefit Project Linus, https://www.projectlinus.org/. In 2023 look for photography by Aaron Ramsey and work from Claire Bigbee and other area photographers.

All local artists and musicians interested in participating in future events are encouraged to contact Group Sales and Marketing Manager Mary Raitt Jordan at 207-646-9384 x408, or at groups@anchoragebythesea.com.
