Apr. 2—A pair of area athletic directors were honored by the South Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association as region athletic directors of the year for 2021.

Mitchell Activities Director Cory Aadland was selected as the Region 6 winner, while Wagner's Neil Goter was honored in Region 7. The awards were announced in conjunction with the SDIAAA annual conference this week, which was held virtually.

Aadland was also honored with the SDIAAA's Steve Berseth Professional Development Award for an athletic administrator who has demonstrated a commitment to personal and professional growth and service to the SDIAAA and its training and certification programs. The award is named after the former Brookings High School activities director who retired in 2011.

Since becoming Mitchell's AD in 2016, Aadland has received certified athletic administrator and master athletic administrator distinctions and is presenting a number of national leadership training courses. He is a member of the SDIAAA's Executive and Strategic Planning committees. He also serves on the tennis advisory committee for the South Dakota HIgh School Activities Association.
