Local boy scout troop members earn orienteering merit badges

Members of Hendersonville Boy Scout troop 628 work on their orienteering merit badge Aug. 25 at Jackson Park. Members of the troop were put into two groups, and each group designed an orienteering course with 15 locations around the park.

The groups then swapped their courses, which had directions for each location given in distance and compass bearings. The scouts would then use their compass to determine the direction of each location.
