ODOT hiring for season

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 will be having a winter season hiring event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Zanesville Office, 3399 East Pike.

Applicants must have a valid Class A or B CDL with tanker endorsement, a good driving record and submit to a drug screen and background check. Positions pay $19.15 an hour. Fill out applications in advance at tranportation.ohio.gov/jobs.

Auditions for Christmas show upcoming

ZANESVILLE − Auditions for "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" will be at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Zanesville Community Theatre, 940 Findley Ave.

The director is Sheryl Wise with Jan Kiikka as producer. There are roles for six women, nine girls, four men and eight boys with several roles open in the children's ensemble. Performances are Nov. 4 to 6 and 11 to 13. Go to zct.org for more information.

Abbot having book sale

ZANESVILLE − A fall book and media sale will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 at Abbot Senior Living, 1258 Greenwood Ave.

Donations of used CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games are still being accepted and can be dropped off at the facility prior to the sale. Proceeds will provide entertainment and other special events for residents. Call 740-453-2781 for more information.

Genesis releases new podcast

ZANESVILLE − A new edition of the Sounds of Good Health with Genesis podcast from Genesis HealthCare System has been released at genesishcs.org/podcast.

"How to Prevent Opioid Use Disorder and When to Seek Treatment" features Dr. Larry Cowan of Genesis Behavioral Health. He describes multiple scenarios leading to opioid addiction and that education is the best way to prevent addiction. Treatment options for those with addictions are also shared.

CFLP taking comments on resolution

NEWARK − The board of directors of the Coshocton-Fairfield-Licking-Perry Solid Waste District is taking comments from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 regarding a resolution of preliminary designation, which includes a list of solid waste facilities to receive municipal solid waste.

The designation will not result in any change to fees for residents or businesses that send waste to in-district landfills. Waste hauled to other facilities will be charged $2 per ton, following an approved application for a designation waiver. This will be effective Jan. 1.

Benefit dinner set

GRATIOT − A Hannah Circle Benefit Dinner for dine-in or carryout will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Gratiot United Methodist Church, 345 South St. Cost is a donation only.

ZANESVILLE − The seventh annual Breakout Bash The Barn supporting Six County National Alliance on Mental Health is Sept. 10 at The Barn, 1947 Linden Ave.

Performers are Matt Frampton at noon, Sharwahl at 1:30 p.m., Rolling Rockers at 3:30 p.m., Funknado at 5:30 p.m., Levi Jameson at 7 p.m. and The River Rats at 8 p.m.

Summer cooling help available

The Ohio Department of Development and MEOAG, Community Action Agency of Muskingum County, are offering a home energy assistance summer crisis program through Sept. 30 for those income eligible.

One must provide copy of most recent energy bills, social security cards and proof of income of household members, proof of citizenship, proof of disability if applicable and physician documentation on the need off cooling assistance if there isn't someone older than 60 in the home.

One can get up to $500 for a regulated utility or $800 for an unregulated utility for assistance with a utility bill or to purchase an air conditioner or fan or to pay for central air repairs.

SWCD to meet Tuesday

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Rural Services Building, 225 Underwood St.

Genesis awarded by AHA

ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System recently received the American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines Resuscitation Gold Award for the sixth consecutive year.

The award recognizes Genesis for consistently implementing the most up-to-date research-based treatment guidelines outlined by the AHA for patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital. The measures include protocols for patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective and timely resuscitation (CPR) and post-resuscitation care.

ZCA memberships offered

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Concert Association is selling memberships for its concert season at Secrest Auditorium. The first concert is at 3 p.m. Oct. 2 with Alias Brass.

Membership includes four local shows and six reciprocal shows for the Knox County Concert Series in Mount Vernon. Adult memberships are $65 for all 10 concerts. Children can attend for free with a paying adult and college students are free with a current identification card.
