Oct. 18—Genealogical society to host event

BRISTOL — Mr. Jack Watson will present "The One-Room Schoolhouse" focusing on early schools in Washington Township and the surrounding area for the Elkhart County Genealogical Society program at 7 p.m. Thursday.

"Mr. Watson, a co-founder of the Bristol Indiana Heritage Society will share stories and photos and tell how consolidation of small schools affected the students and their communities," a news release stated. "He will emphasize the importance of preserving the history of our past for future generations."

The event will be take place in the Sherwin-Sanger History and Meeting Center Room at the Bristol Public Library, 505 W. Vistula St., and is free and open to the public, the release added.

AMBS to host campaign kickoff

ELKHART — Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary is announcing the public launch of its "Forming Leaders Together" campaign to nurture and develop Anabaptist leaders both locally and globally.

The public is invited to join the seminary learning community, the AMBS Board of Directors, and leaders from Mennonite World Conference and Mennonite Church Canada to celebrate the campaign launch Thursday, from 6:30 — 8:30 p.m., in the AMBS Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount at 3003 Benham Ave.

The Campaign Launch Celebration will include a lecture by Jamie Pitts, PhD, Professor of Anabaptist Studies, on "Mysteries of Reconciliation: Culture, Violence, Politics," in honor of his recent promotion to full professor, a news release stated. A dessert reception will follow the presentation.

Town council to meet Thursday

SHIPSHEWANA — The Shipshewana Town Council will meet, for the purpose of hearing housing information, at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Shipshewana Town Hall, Roger D. Yoder meeting room, located at 345 N Morton St.

The meeting is open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend, a news release stated.

Park board to meet Tuesday

SYRACUSE — The Board of Directors of the Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation will meet at at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will take place at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Drive, and will include a discussion of updated by-laws for the park foundation, a news release stated.

Campfire and hayrides Oct. 27-28

GOSHEN — The Elkhart County Parks will be presenting their Halloween Campfire and Hayrides event Oct. 27-28 from 7-10 p.m. at Ox Bow County Park, 23033 C.R. 45.

"Participants can enjoy two evenings of autumn delights with their friends and family at this long-standing, ever-popular event," an Elkhart County Parks Dept. news release stated.

Scheduled activities for the event include:

* Activity stations: pumpkin decorating, face painting, make-n-take crafts;

* Delicious food trucks: Smothered & Covered, Cardinal Coffee, Copper Kettle, NV Donuts and Keim's Elephant Ears;

* Festive décor, spooky stories and a fire dancer;

* Touch-A-Truck with awesome vehicles and delicious candy

* Night-time hayride around the park, and more.

Admission is $5 per person, with age 2 and under free, and can be paid upon entry to the park. All hayrides are on a first-come, first-served and will run throughout the event hours, with the last ride at 9:45 p.m.
