Local business owners say construction is hurting their business

Traffic, uneven pavement and rolling lane closures for the past year. Businesses along Ardmore Blvd say the road work has impacted their bottom lines.

PennDOT has been working to replace several culverts and additional drainage underneath the road.

From local owners closing their shop doors to logistical nightmares for drivers trying to enjoy a family meal, construction is only causing headaches. Some say it’s costing them money too.

Roman Bistro, an Italian eatery, says they began making preparations months in advance, like adding additional parking in the back of the restaurant.

Other businesses, like Hanadi’s Pizza Shop, also on Ardmore Blvd, haven’t been as fortunate. It was completely empty during their once-busy lunch rush due to all the traffic and delays. It’s no longer a quick bite for customers.

“Definitely, it’s affected business. At least 30% to 35% down because a lot of people avoid using that route. Right now, it’s slow, but usually at rush hour it’s impacting all the way from miles away, so nobody can stop to pick up this food,” said Aymon Anbari, owner of Hanadi Mediterranean Food.

PennDOT estimates that all the work will be completed by the summer of 2023.
