Local nonprofit hosts sports field day for students who are blind or visually impaired
A local nonprofit held a sports field day at Alexander Graham Middle School on Saturday for Charlotte students who are blind or visually impaired.
The event was called S.E.E. Field Day, which stands for Student Enrichment Experience Field Day.
The annual event was held by IFB Solutions, the largest employer of people who are blind in the U.S.
The event had soccer, balance beams, tandem biking, and a sport called goal-ball, which is played almost exclusively by athletes who are visually impaired.
Ian Rombach was one of the students who attended the event.

“My favorite part has been tandem cycling,” said Rombach. “It’s a really fun sport to do.”
His mom said she was grateful for the event and the other services they provide.
“It has been an amazing program for him,” his mother, Jessica Rombach, told Channel 9. “It has introduced him to kids just like him. We have seen him come out of his shell a lot.”
IFB Solutions and the S.E.E. Program hold free events throughout the year, including trips to museums and a two-week summer camp.
