VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A local church celebrated 210 years on Sunday with local politicians attending.

Kempsville Baptist Church was founded on April 30, 1814. Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer as well as former Virginia delegate Karen Greenhalgh were present at the celebration.

Dyer presented a proclamation from the city of Virginia Beach commemorating the day, and Greenhalgh presented a proclamation from the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Executive Director of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia Dr. Brian Autry also spoke.

The church also unveiled a new historical room, to commemorate its existence through the Civil War, the Great Depression and other major points in history. The church still serves in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach under the leadership of Dr. Kelly Burris.
