COMMUNITY PICNIC IN THE PARK: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 14, College Heights United Methodist Church, College Heights Commons, 942 South Blvd., Lakeland. Across the street from the church building. Free. Bring a picnic supper, paper supplies and eating utensils for your family; a dessert to share; picnic blankets; and lawn chairs. Table provided with plates and napkins for desserts. Bottled water provided. Following the picnic, those interested walk to Lake Morton to feed the ducks and swans. City-approved food provided (no bread, please).

FIRST ANNUAL CANCER WARRIORS BBQ: 6 p.m. May 15, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 3504 Mt. Tabor Road, Lakeland. Food includes pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, tea or lemonade and chips for $5. All proceeds go to children fighting cancer. Co-sponsor is End Zone.

A family friendly concert featuring bell choirs: Festival Ringers and Simply Bronze. GEAR UP FLORIDA — THE ABILITY EXPERIENCE: This 950-mile cycling event kicks off in Miami, reaches the Gulf Coast, passes through Orlando, comes back to the Atlantic coast in Jacksonville and culminates at the State Capitol in Tallahassee. The mission of the Pi Kappa Phi members is to reach out to as many people as possible spreading a message of acceptance and understanding on behalf of people with disabilities. The group will have lunch at noon, May 21 at Webster Memorial Baptist Church, 1135 N. Chestnut Road, Lakeland.
