Local clerks announce regular post-election audit schedules

Clerks in Ottawa and Allegan counties have announced the schedule for regular audits for the November 2022 election cycle.

Post-election audits are part of the state’s election process. A number of precincts in each county are randomly selected. Ottawa County will conduct 10 audits, while Allegan County will conduct six.

All post-election audits are conducted in an open meeting, with the public welcome to attend.

"Our office is committed to administering secure and transparent elections,” Ottawa County Clerk and Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck wrote in a statement. “Post-election audits are one way that we continue the practice of open communication and integrity with the elections process and our voters. We encourage anyone interested in this process to join us over the next few weeks.”

“My staff and I are excited to work with local clerks as we review the processes and procedures from months out right up through election day to ensure that election law was properly followed,” Allegan County Clerk Bob Genetski wrote in a statement.

Genetski said any “shortcomings” revealed will be used to bolster election training. Allegan County’s audits will include a hand count of the governor race, he said.

Ottawa County’s process began Friday, Jan. 27, and concludes Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Audits will be conducted at:

  • Tallmadge Township, Precinct 1 (9 a.m., Jan. 27)

  • Georgetown Township Precinct 15 (8 a.m. Feb. 1)

  • Blendon Township Precinct 2 (2 p.m. Feb. 1)

  • Polkton Township Precinct 1 (9 a.m. Feb. 2)

  • Allendale Township Precinct 1 (9 a.m. Feb. 3)

  • Wright Township Precinct 1 (9 a.m. Feb. 6)

  • Coopersville Precinct 2 (1 p.m. Feb. 6)

  • Grand Haven Township Precinct 4 (1:30 p.m. Feb. 9)

  • Port Sheldon Township Precinct 1 (9 a.m. Feb. 14)

  • Robinson Township Precinct 2 (1 p.m. Feb. 14)

Allegan County’s schedule runs from Jan. 30 to Feb. 7. Audits will be conducted at:

  • City of Allegan Precinct 1 (9 a.m. Jan. 30)

  • Valley Township (1 p.m. Jan. 31)

  • Gun Plain Township Precinct 1 (1 p.m. Feb. 1)

  • Monterey Township (1 p.m. Feb. 2)

  • City of Saugatuck (1 p.m. Feb. 3)

  • Trowbridge Township (9 a.m. Feb. 7)
