Local coffee and tea shop hosts Mad Hatter themed tea party

May 31—Several children were able to escape to wonderland for a Mad Hatter tea party at Golden Leaves located in Richmond Mall on Saturday.

Children were accompanied by Alice and the Mad Hatter — portrayed by Rachael Stone and Hannah Mullins with Princesses Do Come True: Magical Event Services — who took photos and played trivia games with attendees.

The cafe and soap shop hosts monthly events with different themes. Last month, they hosted a "Beauty and the Beast" themed tea party.

"We had two sessions (of the 'Beauty and the Beast' tea) and we booked out of both sessions in three days," Samantha Maron said. "So we opened up another session and we booked out of that in three days. The beast is like our fastest sell out. Alice took a little bit longer, but there was a longer timeline for that from when I posted to when the event was."

Next month, Moran said the shop is planning on hosting painting events with a local artist. In July, the shop will be hosting a Harry Potter month with a plethora of brand new drinks.

Anyone can purchase a Low Tea at Golden Leaves where they get to select their own tea cup set to use. Low Tea was intended as a light snack to tide someone over until dinner, Moran said. They sell options for $18 per person called a Cream tea which is the sweets and tea or for a Low tea for $25 which includes more savories, sweets and tea.

"Back in the Victorian time, they did not do lunch, they just did breakfast and dinner and dinner was super late," Moran said. "(Duchess Anna) kind of started the whole low tea thing. She'd bring girlfriends over and do finger sandwiches and desserts and stuff."
