Jan. 10—Camel highlights

— Connecticut College junior David Murray was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball. He averaged 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two victories.

Murray is the first Camel to earn the honor twice in one season. He leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 13.6 and 7.4, respectively.

"David continues to work hard to improve himself, and I'm thrilled to see him get this recognition," coach Tim Sweeney said in a release.

The Camels are off to a strong start at 11-4 overall and stand at 2-0 in the league for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Tracking the Bears

— Coast Guard Academy sophomore Julia Mann was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week in women's basketball. Mann averaged 13.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and two steals in two games, helping the Bears force 37 turnovers.

Mariners riding a wave

— Mitchell College senior Alfonzo Stokes leads the New England Collegiate Conference in scoring at 20.1 points per game while teammate Jalen Benson (New London) is tied for fourth at 13.1. The Mariners are 10-2 overall.

— Reigning NECC women's basketball player of the year Amina Wiley ranks second in the league in scoring (15.9 points) and rebounding (11.4).

Around the region

— UConn junior Adama Sanogo earned a spot on the weekly Big East men's basketball honor roll after averaging 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games. The Huskies dropped two spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, checking in at No. 6.

— Redshirt junior Aubrey Griffin represented UConn on the weekly Big East women's basketball honor roll, averaging 17 points and 8.0 rebounds in two wins. The Huskies moved up to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 poll.

— A pair of St. Bernard graduates, senior guards Max Lee and Hunter Baillargeon, are members of the Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team. Lee has appeared in 11 games, starting eight, and leads the team with 48 assists and averages 3.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. Baillargeon, a Mitchell transfer, has played in 13 games off the bench.

— Also at Eastern, sophomore Jenna Morin (Waterford) is competing for the swimming team.

— Freshman Nancy Inthasit (Stonington) is on the Central Connecticut State University women's track and field team while Chris Abbey (East Lyme), Tyrone Mack (Montville), Teddy Nosiku (St. Bernard), Cam Whalen (Stonington) and Clayton Goodrich (Lyman Memorial) are on the men's team.

Whalen ran on the 4x400 relay team that placed fourth in three minutes, 26.98 seconds, at the Wagner College Invitational on Friday.

— At Southern Connecticut State University, junior Cameron Belton (Norwich Free Academy) broke a meet record in the shot put with a throw of 16.32 meters at the Art Kadish Elm City Classic last month. Freshman Anthony Gaeta (Griswold), junior Shea Kenney (Fitch), senior Shane Smith (Stonington), sophomore Marquis White (New London) and NFA graduates Adelino Daveiga, Jordan Ribeiro and Osaretin Osagie also are on the team.

— Also at Southern, Olivia Strelevitz (Ledyard) won the 200 backstroke (2:14.42) and finished second in the 50 freestyle (26.07 seconds) in a win over Pace University in a dual meet last month.

— Senior guard Julianna Bonilla (Waterford) has started all 14 games for the Marist women's basketball team. She is averaging 4.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

— Freshman Connor Doran (Ledyard) and junior Ryan Powers (Lyman Memorial) are competing on the WPI wrestling team.

— Sophomore Alyssa Virtue (Fitch) is averaging 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds in a reserve role for the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team. The Wolves are 10-1 overall.

— Former All-Area Player of the Year Rosi Nicholson (New London) is a starting guard for the Hofstra women's basketball team, averaging 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15 games. A member of the All-Colonial Athletic Association defensive team last season, she's first on the team in steals with 32.

— Sophomore guard Jayden Burns (New London) and junior forward Taina Pagan (New London) are playing on the Post University women's basketball team.

— At Ithaca College, senior Liam Spellman (Waterford) is averaging 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing in all 11 games for the men's basketball team. He had a season-high 11 points and 10 rebounds against Hobart in a 75-74 win on Saturday.

— Valerie Luizzi (Bacon Academy) is in her first season with the Keene State women's basketball team. She's appeared in 10 games, averaging 9.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. She has scored in double figures in four of the last five games.

— Charee Osborne (New London) is in her first season as a graduate assistant for the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team.

— Senior guard Kellie Nudd (Bacon Academy) ranks third in scoring at 7.4 and second in rebounding at 5.3 for the Mercy College women's basketball team.
