LOCAL CONNECTIONS: Collins returns to Bucknell lineup

Feb. 7—Sophomore Cecelia Collins (Scranton Prep) returned to action for the Bucknell University women's basketball team in a 60-50 win over Army West Point.

Playing 27 minutes off the bench, Collins totaled 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. She last played Jan. 2 at Boston University, missing eight games with an injury.

Despite being sidelined, Collins still leads the Bison in scoring with 13.1 points and assists with 44.

Bucknell is 9-13 overall and 5-6 in the Patriot League.

Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball senior George Tinsley (Abington Heights) grabbed a game-high

11 rebounds in a 79-75

victory over Quinnipiac University.

Tinsley also collected six points, a game-high five assists, two blocks and one steal.

He has five or more rebounds in each of Mountaineers' last 14 games and 20 of 24 games this season. He is tied for seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 6.4 rebounds per game.

Back-to-back?

Wofford College sophomore Rachael Rose (Scranton Prep) was named Southern Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 24-30.

Rose might be bidding to capture the award again this week.

In a 69-66 victory at Furman University, she scored 22 points, handed out a career-high eight assists and added six rebounds and four steals.

The Southern Conference announces the Player of the Week recipient on Tuesdays.

Give him Liberty

Clarkson University senior Blake Gearhart (Delaware Valley) was selected to the Liberty League men's basketball weekly honor roll for the period of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.

Gearhart scored 19 points in an 81-59 win over Rochester Institute of Technology. The next night he scored a career-high 28 points and also had five assists in a 91-82 overtime victory over Hobart College. In the two games, he shot a combined 18 for 27 from the field, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

Averaging 13.4 points, Gearhart ranks second on the team and 11th in the Liberty League in scoring.

At the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational, Bucknell University men's track and field junior Robert Feeney (Scranton Prep) won the weight throw at 59 feet, 10 1/4 inches. That distance meets the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships and ranks seventh in program history. ... Bucknell women's track and field junior Lila Gaughan (North Pocono) placed seventh in the long jump at 16 feet, 11 1/2 inches at the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational. ... Saint Joseph's University men's track and field sophomore Kevin Jumper (Holy Cross) finished ninth in the 5,000 meters in 14:57.37 at the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational. One week earlier, at the Dr. Sanders Invitational Columbia Challenge, Jumper was 13th in the 3,000 meters in 8:25.26. That was a personal-best time and met the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships. ... Colgate University men's track and field junior Bo Lynett (Scranton Prep) won the high jump at the Colgate Class of '32 Invitational, clearing 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches. He also was second in the triple jump at 36-8 1/2 and third in the long jump at 17-11 3/4 . ... Dickinson College women's basketball sophomore Clair Marion (Abington Heights) scored 20 points in a 61-35 win over Washington College, Maryland. She scored the team's first 11 points of the third and finished with 13 in the quarter. Marion averages 14.9 points, which ranks fourth in the Centennial Conference. She also is tops in the league in 3-point field-goal percentage (37.2, 35 for 94) and fifth in assists (56) and steals (49). ... Freshman Anna Scoblick (Abington Heights) has played 20 games with 15 starts for the Catholic University women's basketball team. She averages 6.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and is second on the team with 34 assists. ... Drexel University women's basketball freshman Kylie Lavelle (Riverside) had five points and a team-high six rebounds in a 66-65 win over Stony Brook University.

WEEKLY WINNERS

For the third time this season, Jack Anderson of Keystone College was named Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

Anderson averaged 24.5 points during a 2-0 week by the Giants. He shot 14 for 28 from the field, including 10 of 19 from 3-point range, and 11 for 13 from the foul line. He also collected eight assists, five steals and two blocks.

Teammate Pete Laidley was selected to the weekly honor roll, as were Ashton West and Hunter Plantz of Clarks Summit University.

—Elizabeth Singleton from Clarks Summit University was chosen CSAC women's basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

Singleton averaged 30.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and totaled 15 assists in a 2-0 week by the Lady Defenders. She scored 40 points against Rosemont, then had a double-double of 20 points and 11 assists against Bryn Athyn.

Serene Calderon of Clarks Summit University and Keystone College's Kyleigh Monk and Izzy Rosario were named to the weekly honor roll.

Atlantic East

Brendan Franko and Jason Holman (Riverside) of Marywood University were selected to the Atlantic East Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll for the period ending Sunday.
