LOCAL CONNECTIONS: Tinsley helps Mount stop skid

Jan. 24—Senior George Tinsley (Abington Heights) scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to help the Mount St. Mary's men's basketball team defeat Marist College, 59-55, and stop a four-game losing streak.

Tinsley has started all 20 games for the Mountaineers this season. He averages

7.4 points, ranks second in rebounds with 6.2 per game, is tied for the team lead with 22 steals and is second with 10 blocks.

Mount St. Mary's is 7-13 overall and 3-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

On the lanes

Duquesne University women's bowling senior Kiearra Saldi (Holy Cross) finished 25th in the individual standings with a five-game average of 205.8 at the Northeast Classic in Deptford, New Jersey.

The 33-team field featured 22 of the 25 teams ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, including 14 of the top 15. Duquesne, which is ranked No. 12, placed 10th in the final team standings.

For the second time in three weeks, Immaculata University sophomore Abbey Lentowski (Holy Cross) was named to the Atlantic East Conference women's basketball weekly honor roll for the period ending Sunday. Lentowski averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds during a 1-1 week for the Mighty Macs. ... Lafayette College track and field sophomore Jack Lynett (Scranton Prep) finished second in the pole vault at the Moravian University Invitational in Bethlehem, clearing 13 feet, 5 3/4 inches. ... Colgate University track and field junior Bo Lynett (Scranton Prep) set a personal best in the long jump at 17 feet, 11 3/4 inches at the Ramapo College Opener, held at the New York Armory. ... At the Bucknell University Gulden Invitational, Bucknell women's track and field freshman Avery Rebar (Mid Valley) finished 10th in the shot put at 35 feet, 8.5 inches. Bucknell men's track and field junior Robert Feeney (Scranton Prep) took third in the weight throw at 58 feet, 10 inches. Bloomsburg University men's track and field sophomore Doug Walsh (Holy Cross) placed ninth in the high jump at 6 feet, 3/4 inches and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished seventh in 3:35.82. ... Elizabethtown College women's basketball freshman Kaeli Romanowski (Western Wayne) scored eight points and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds in a 64-58 win over Catholic University. ... Haverford College men's basketball sophomore Harry Johnson (Abington Heights) had a season-high 10 rebounds in a 71-61 loss to Franklin & Marshall College. ... Wofford College women's basketball sophomore Rachael Rose (Scranton Prep) had 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 75-58 loss to East Tennessee State University. Rose ranks fourth in the Southern Conference in scoring with 15.2 points; second in assists (4.1); tied for second in steals (1.9); first in 3-point field-goal percentage (.455, 25 for 55); and sixth in field-goal percentage (.486, 102 for 210). ... Clarkson University men's basketball senior Blake Gearhart (Delaware Valley) scored a season-high 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting and also handed out five assists in an 87-83 loss to Hobart College.

WEEKLY WINNERS

Keystone College's Javen Flowers-Smith was chosen Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

Flowers-Smith averaged 27.5 points, 10.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 4.0 rebounds during a 1-1 week by the Giants. He scored 33 points in a win over Cairn that was Keystone's first victory over the Highlanders since Jan. 20, 2018. He shot 18 for 44 from the field (40.9 percent), including 7 of 17 from 3-point range (41.2), and 12 for 20 from the foul line.

Teammate Daivel Jackson and Clark Summit University's Kelvin Chest were named to the weekly honor roll.

In CSAC women's basketball, Serene Calderon of Clark Summit University and Keystone College's Izzy Rosario and Riley Berry were selected to the weekly honor roll.
