A large outdoor movie screen is coming to a Sumner farm – but it’ll only be there for two days.

Knutson Farms at 16406 78th St. E. is hosting a movie night Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 from 5-10 p.m. “The Sandlot” will begin showing at 8:30 p.m. There will also be food trucks, a beer garden, farm games and a silent auction.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. It costs $20 per person while children ages 2 and under can enter for free. Attendees are advised to bring blankets and chairs for the movie.

Food for sale at the event will include Filipino cuisine from Born-n-Braised, as well as Caribbean and Southern cuisine from RJ’S BBQ Smokehouse. A beer garden will feature beverages from Top Down Brewing Co.

Children can enjoy games such as a big version of connect four, hopscotch and tetherball. They can also hop on a “cow train,” navigate through a trike course or participate in rubber duck races.

Some of the items included in the silent auction will be tickets to The Museum of Flight and to Wild Waves Theme and Water Park, among other things. VIP seating for the movie — a flatbed truck with comfortable seats and baskets full of treats – will also be raffled off at the event.

“The flowers should be in full bloom so the fields will be open for people to just kind of go and walk around,” said North Cady, Puyallup Food Bank spokesperson.

Money raised during the event will be split between the Puyallup Food Bank and the Sumner Community Food Bank. The Puyallup Food Bank is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. This is a way to celebrate that, executive assistant Diane Ridgway said.

“Knutson Farms understands the value of cultivating relationships with both the land and their neighbors … . It only seemed natural, then, to join with local food banks who share these same guiding principles,” according to a news release.

This won’t be the only time Knutson Farms will have a movie night. There are plans to host a similar event next year, Ridgway said.

“It’s essentially a time for the community to gather, have fun and raise money for the two food banks,” Cady said. “Knutson Farms and Old Cannery kind of spearheaded this effort.”
